I finally pulled the trigger on the ROG Ally X and man this thing is a beast compared to my old Z1 Extreme. The extra RAM and that massive battery are literal game changers for my commute but now Im running into a super annoying issue. I have like three different cases from my original Ally—the official travel one and a couple of hardshells—but none of them fit properly anymore because the X is just so much thicker with those improved ergonomics. Its like trying to squeeze into jeans from high school lol.

I really need something sturdy because I have a long flight to Tokyo coming up in three weeks and I dont want my joysticks getting crushed in my backpack. I looked at some of the dbrand Killswitch stuff but I dont think the fit is quite right for the new chassis dimensions yet and I definitely need full enclosure. Im looking to spend maybe 50 bucks max since the handheld already emptied my savings account. Does anyone know if there are dedicated Ally X cases out yet that actually account for the extra depth and the moved ports? Or maybe a steam deck case that fits it better than the OG Ally ones?...

I just picked up a used PS4 Slim from a guy on FB marketplace here in Chicago for like eighty bucks and honestly I'm kinda terrified it's gonna die on me. I really wanted a PS5 but the budget just isn't there right now with rent going up so I'm trying to make this old thing last as long as possible. Winter is coming up and I'm gonna be stuck inside basically all the time so I want the best experience I can get without breaking the bank. I've been looking online for what I actually need to buy for it in 2024 because everything feels so outdated and most guides are from like five years ago.

Like I saw a bunch of people on Reddit saying I HAVE to swap the internal hard drive for an SSD but when I looked at the prices for a 1TB one it's almost as much as I paid for the whole console? Is the speed boost even that noticeable on a Slim or is that just for the Pro models? Then I saw those vertical stands with the built in cooling fans and charging docks which seemed like a great idea until I read a few forum posts saying they actually make the console hotter by messing with the airflow and pushing dust inside. Now I'm just sitting here staring at it and I'm worried I'm gonna fry the thing if I dont get some kind of cooling setup or something to help it breathe but I dont want to buy something that breaks it faster.

I also only have one controller and the battery life is pretty trash since it's used so I definitely need something for that. My budget for all these extras is maybe $100 tops for right now and I really want to get it sorted within the next week or two before the snow hits. Should I get a specific headset too or just use some cheap earbuds I have lying around? I'm mostly gonna be playing single player stuff like Horizon and God of War but I don't want to miss out on the sound quality. What are the absolute must-have accessories I need to buy right now to keep this thing running and actually enjoy it in 2024?

I know the PS5 is the big thing now but I just couldnt pass this up since I'm on a tight budget. I have about $150 to spend on upgrades right now and I want to get it all set up before my four-day weekend starts next Thursday. My main issue is the loading times are kinda brutal so I was looking at getting an internal SSD to swap out the old drive. I'm stuck between the Crucial MX500 1TB or spending a little extra for the Samsung 870 EVO... is the Samsung actually worth the premium on an older console like this or am I just throwing money away?

The other thing is my living room is tiny so I cant really have wires everywhere. I was looking at getting a charging dock for the controllers so they arent just sitting on the floor with cables running to the TV. Do I go for the official Sony one if I can find it or just a cheap one from Amazon? Also looking at the HyperX Cloud II headsets because my apartment walls are paper thin and I dont want to wake up the neighbors when I'm playing late at night. Basically just trying to figure out which of these is the actual must-have to make the experience feel modern in 2024. Which of these accessories should I prioritize first?

So I finally hit the wall with my PS5 storage and its driving me crazy. I thought the 825GB or whatever it is would last me a while but with how big these games are getting now its basically impossible to keep more than like 4 big titles installed at once. I just grabbed the new Spider-Man and the update for Cyberpunk and boom, im out of space. I pride myself on being pretty tech savvy—I've built my own rigs since the DDR3 days—so I know my way around an M.2 slot but the PS5 requirements feel kinda picky. Sony says 5,500MB/s minimum read speed and it HAS to be PCIe Gen4 but i keep seeing people say some drives that meet those specs still stutter in certain games.

I was looking at the Samsung 980 Pro or maybe the WD Black SN850X because those seem to be the top dogs but then I saw some random brands on Amazon for way cheaper and now im second guessing everything. I have about 160 pounds to spend and I really want to get at least 2TB because 1TB feels like a waste of a slot if im being honest. Also the whole heatsink thing is annoying. Do I really need to buy the one with the pre-installed sink? Some people say the DIY ones fit better or run cooler but I dont want to void any warranties or mess up the console since it was a gift from my wife and she'd kill me if I bricked it.

I need to get this ordered like tonight if I want it here by the weekend because im supposed to have a massive gaming session with some old friends from uni and I dont want to spend the whole time deleting and redownloading stuff on my mid internet connection. Is the FireCuda 530 actually worth the extra premium or am I just paying for the name? And if I go with the SN850X does it actually hit those speeds in the PS5 benchmark or is that just marketing fluff for PC users? Just tell me what the absolute best drive is right now that won't give me any weird compatibility errors down the line...

So I finally managed to snag a PS5 last month and honestly I've just been using some old crappy earbuds plugged into the controller but it's totally ruining the vibe for games like Returnal and the new Spider-Man stuff where everyone talks about the 3D audio being so immersive. I really want that sound is coming from behind me feeling but I'm getting massive analysis paralysis looking at all the reviews online... like every site says something different and my head is spinning.

I've narrowed it down to three main choices but I keep flip-flopping. My logic was to start with the official Sony Pulse 3D ones because they're literally made for the console and they're only like a hundred bucks which fits my budget perfectly but then I read people saying the mic is trash and the ear cups get really sweaty after an hour? And I tend to play for like 4-5 hours on weekends so comfort is a huge deal for me.

Then I was looking at the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P. They're about $180 though which is pushing it but if the 3D audio implementation is actually better or just as good as the official ones then maybe it's worth the jump? I've heard the battery life is way better too which would be nice because I always forget to charge my stuff. But then I saw a thread about the Audeze Maxwells and now I'm even more stressed. Everyone says the sound quality is insane compared to everything else but they're $300 and heavy as hell. Is $300 too much to spend just for a console headset? I'm mostly worried that if I go cheap I'll miss out on the actual 3D effect but if I go too expensive I'm just wasting money on features I wont even notice because I'm not some crazy audiophile.

I'm in the US and I really want to order something by Friday so I have it for my days off next week. If you guys had to choose between these:

Sony Pulse 3D

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P

Audeze Maxwell (if it's really worth the extra $120)

What would you do? I just want to make sure the directional stuff actually works so I stop getting jumped by enemies in God of War...

So I finally managed to secure a preorder for the new Switch 2 and I am lowkey terrified of scratching that screen the second it comes out of the box. I have this huge trip to Tokyo planned for late August which is basically right after the launch window if the rumors hold up and I really need something that can handle a 14 hour flight stuffed inside a cramped backpack. I was looking at some of those early listings on Amazon from brands like Mamba and some Hori leaks but honestly they look like they might just be rebranded Switch OLED cases?

I read somewhere that the dimensions are just different enough that the old stuff wont fit properly especially with the new magnetic rail thing for the joycons. I dont want to spend a fortune maybe like 40 bucks max but I need something that actually has a hard shell and maybe space for a power bank because we all know the battery is probably gonna be mid. Does anyone know if there are legit tested cases out yet or should I just wait until launch day and risk it? I really dont want to be the guy who drops his brand new console in the airport terminal...

I just managed to snag the new console and my wallet is crying. I've got a couple of older 8BitDo Pro 2 controllers that I used for the original Switch and I really hope I don't have to replace them for local Mario Kart nights with my roommates. I saw some tech blogger say the Bluetooth stack is basically the same so they should just connect but then I read a different thread saying Nintendo might be blocking third party stuff that doesn't have the new proprietary chip for the haptic feedback. It's confusing as hell and I'm on a strict budget after dropping 400 quid on the unit itself. Does anyone actually know which third-party controllers are confirmed to work with the Switch 2 without lag or missing features?
