I’ve had my Xbox Series X since launch, and while I love the sleek 'monolith' look, it’s starting to feel a bit plain sitting on my desk. I’m really looking to personalize it, but I’m struggling to find high-quality custom shells or replacement housings. Most of what I see online are just vinyl skins or stickers, which honestly aren't what I'm looking for—I want something more substantial like a full transparent shell or a high-end matte finish replacement.
I’ve looked at a few options on Amazon and AliExpress, but I’m worried about the build quality and whether the fitment will be off. I definitely don't want something that feels like cheap, creaky plastic or causes any issues with the console's airflow. I'm also a bit nervous about the disassembly process, so if any specific brands provide good tutorials or include the necessary tools, that would be a huge plus. My budget is pretty flexible if the quality is there.
Has anyone here actually swapped their Series X shell, and if so, which brands would you recommend for the best fit and finish?
For your situation, I've tried many shells over the years and most are basically junk, but you gotta check out the eXtremeRate Front Plate for Xbox Series X. Honestly, it's the only one I've found that doesn't feel like cheap, creaky plastic. I swapped mine for the transparent black version and the fitment is LITERALLY perfect. It comes with the tools you need and their YouTube tutorials are pretty easy to follow, tho the disassembly is kinda nerve-wracking the first time lol. Just take ur time and you'll be fine!! gl!
Sooo, I totally feel u on the 'plain' look. I actually tried a cheap housing from a random site last year and it was honestly a nightmare—the plastic felt super brittle and the screw holes didn't even line up right. Not worth the stress imo. Since u want quality without breaking the bank, here's what I'd suggest instead of those pricey full shell swaps:
1. Xbox Series X Console Wraps - These are legit 'premium' covers from Microsoft. Not stickers! They’re thick, fabric-like panels that wrap around and secure with velcro. No disassembly needed so u keep ur warranty.
2. ExtremeRate Wood Grain Faceplate for Xbox Series X - I know the others mentioned the transparent ones, but the wood grain finish actually feels high-end and hides fingerprints way better.
Basically, if u want that 'monolith' vibe but classier, the official wraps are the safest bet for airflow. Good luck!!
Seconding the recommendation above. eXtremeRate Faceplate for Xbox Series X is basically the gold standard cuz the fitment is spot on, right?
But honestly, be super careful with the disassembly. You gotta pop the back panel and the warranty seal, and since the Series X is basically a tightly packed chimney, you dont wanna mess with the airflow. If youre looking for a full housing swap, iirc Mcbazel Replacement Shell for Xbox Series X is an okay alternative, but highkey, the plastic feels thinner than OEM. Just make sure you use a proper T8 T10 Torx Screwdriver Set so you dont strip the screws... that would be a nightmare. gl!
Seconded!
