Honestly getting so fed up with how much room this bulky PS4 Pro takes up on my tiny desk. I live in a cramped studio in Seattle and my girlfriend is moving in next month so I desperately need to clear some space before she gets here. Right now it just sits there like a giant slab and it gets so loud when I play God of War, its driving me crazy.
I'm worried if I just stand it up on its side without a base itll tip over or overheat even faster since the vents are on the sides. Is a vertical stand actually worth it for the Pro or is it just a waste of money that makes the fans work harder?
Honestly, standing that console up without a base is risky. Its way too top-heavy and one accidental bump will send it crashing. If you are tight on space, the Sony PlayStation 4 Vertical Stand CUH-ZST2 is a solid investment for stability alone. It uses a mounting screw so it wont tip. Regarding the heat, it wont really make things cooler, but a proper stand has vents to prevent it from choking. Quick tip: make sure you dont shove the back of the console right against a wall when it is vertical. The Pro needs that exhaust room. If you keep it in the open, it works fine. Just keep expectations low on the noise front... that fan is gonna kick in regardless when playing GoW. It is a decent option for space-saving tho.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I am jumping in here because I am totally paranoid about consoles tipping! I actually had a close call where a heavy textbook fell and nearly took my Pro out... scary stuff. Everyone so far has pointed out the official stand and wall mounts which are honestly both awesome choices for your studio. Here is my take on two other ways to go:
I moved mine to a wall mount last year because the vertical airflow felt weird! It saved so much space and the thermals stayed amazing!
