Okay so the ROG Ally X battery is definitely a step up from the original but I am still panicking about my flight to London next month. I am gonna be stuck on a plane for like 8 hours and I really want to play Elden Ring the whole time without it dying mid-boss. My logic was that I just needed any old 65W brick but then I started reading some threads saying that if you are playing in 25W or 30W turbo mode some of these power banks actually drain while they are plugged in because they cant keep up with the peak power draw.

I looked at the Anker 737 since everyone raves about it but then some people are saying the newer Prime models are better for the Ally X specifically because of the PD 3.1 support? I dont even know if that matters for this specific handheld. My budget is like $100 maybe $120 max. I am also super worried about the TSA thing like I dont want them taking my battery away if it is too big but I need enough juice to actually get through the flight. I was thinking about the Baseus 30000mah one but some say it only outputs 65W and that might not be enough to charge it while playing. Im just getting really frustrated and confused with all the different wattages and capacities. What are you guys actually using that fits in a carry-on and wont die in an hour...

Yo, just catching up on this thread. Ive been messing with high-draw handhelds since the original Deck launch and honestly, people overcomplicate the PD 3.1 stuff for the Ally. The Ally X pulls 65W max, so you dont actually need a 140W bank to keep it charged while playing, but having that extra overhead helps with heat and efficiency during those long Elden Ring sessions. If youre hitting an 8-hour flight, that 30,000mAh Baseus you mentioned is probably a no-go. Most 30k units are around 114Wh or higher, and the TSA cutoff is strictly 100Wh. You really dont want a grumpy agent tossing your expensive gear in the bin. Here is what I have actually put through the ringer:

  • Anker 737 Power Bank PowerCore 24K 140W
  • This is the gold standard for a reason. It handles the 65W draw like a champ while staying cool. The screen is super handy for seeing exactly how much time you have left before the bank dies. Its about 86Wh so totally TSA safe.
  • Anker Prime 27650mAh Power Bank 250W
  • This is the max legal option. Its 99.54Wh, literally as close to the 100Wh limit as you can get. PD 3.1 is nice for future-proofing, and it charges back up insanely fast at the terminal.
  • UGREEN Nexode 145W Power Bank 25000mAh
  • Solid middle ground if you want to save a few bucks. Usually cheaper than Anker but still built like a tank. TL;DR: Grab the Anker 737 or the 27.6K Prime if you want the absolute maximum runtime allowed on a plane. Avoid anything labeled 30,000mAh or you are gambling with security.

Im super satisfied with the INIU 140W 27000mAh Power Bank. Compared to Anker, you get more capacity for less cash, plus its basically the TSA limit for that long flight. Works well!

In my experience, peak output is usually a total marketing lie. Ive tried many different setups over the years and learned that if the bank doesnt support the newer PD 3.1 standards, youll definitely see that slow drain during boss fights. My current setup finally stays at 100% while im playing... took a lot of trial and error to find one that didnt throttle when it got hot. Definitely prioritize high sustained output!

Coming back to this and omg I feel your pain so much!! This exact same thing drove me absolutely insane before my big trip last summer. I spent like weeks obsessing over watts and volts and honestly I still feel like a total beginner with all this tech stuff even though I love it. I actually tried to DIY my own cooling setup with some tiny fans and a 3D printed clip for my battery because I was so worried about things overheating and throttling the charging speed... it looked totally ridiculous lol. It is just so frustrating when you spend all that money on a beast like the ASUS ROG Ally X and you still have to worry about it dying! I remember sitting on my couch testing my setup and just watching the battery percentage drop while I was in a boss fight. I was so upset because I thought I had bought the right stuff! I eventually figured out some tricks with how I was mounting things to keep them cool, but man, the learning curve is just brutal. I really hope you get it sorted because there is nothing worse than that low battery red light staring at you when youre trying to game!
