So I finally got my hands on a PS4 Pro from my cousin for super cheap and honestly im so hyped to finally play Bloodborne and God of War properly lol. I know the PS5 is the big thing now but I just couldnt pass this up since I'm on a tight budget. I have about $150 to spend on upgrades right now and I want to get it all set up before my four-day weekend starts next Thursday. My main issue is the loading times are kinda brutal so I was looking at getting an internal SSD to swap out the old drive. I'm stuck between the Crucial MX500 1TB or spending a little extra for the Samsung 870 EVO... is the Samsung actually worth the premium on an older console like this or am I just throwing money away?

The other thing is my living room is tiny so I cant really have wires everywhere. I was looking at getting a charging dock for the controllers so they arent just sitting on the floor with cables running to the TV. Do I go for the official Sony one if I can find it or just a cheap one from Amazon? Also looking at the HyperX Cloud II headsets because my apartment walls are paper thin and I dont want to wake up the neighbors when I'm playing late at night. Basically just trying to figure out which of these is the actual must-have to make the experience feel modern in 2024. Which of these accessories should I prioritize first?

Honestly getting a PS4 Pro now is a smart move if you want to catch up on exclusives without breaking the bank. For the drive, the Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SATA III SSD is a beast but you wont actually see those extra speeds on a console. The system just isnt fast enough to take advantage of it. Stick with the Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD since its cheaper and performs the same in a Pro. That leaves you more cash for the rest. Try to track down the Sony PlayStation DualShock 4 Charging Station for your controllers. Those cheap knockoffs usually plug into the micro-USB port which breaks easily. The official one uses the EXT port on the bottom and its much sturdier. If you need to keep it quiet, the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset is a classic... super comfy. Prioritize the SSD first tho. It makes Bloodborne loading screens way more tolerable.

  • I've tried many setups and the WD Blue SA510 1TB SATA SSD is my go-to. Quick tip: prioritize the SSD to actually save time.

Unfortunately, the Pro bottlenecks high-end drives, so the expensive Samsung is a letdown. I was disappointed with how little difference it made compared to cheaper options. Stick with the Crucial MX500 1TB 3D NAND SATA 2.5 Inch Internal SSD. Also, cheap docks are usually hot garbage and break easily. Id go with the PowerA DualShock 4 Charging Station instead. The SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless Gaming Headset is also a much better budget pick for your apartment.
