Hey everyone! I just picked up the new ASUS ROG Ally X and I am absolutely loving it so far, but I am terrified of scratching it up. Since the Ally X is a bit thicker than the original model because of that massive 80Wh battery, I am worried my old travel case won't fit it properly.

I am looking for something that:

  • has a hard shell for drop protection
  • actually fits the new dimensions without pressing the joysticks
  • has enough space for the bulky power adapter

Does anyone have recommendations for a case that is specifically designed for the X's updated shape? I really need to protect this investment!

Honestly, the Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case Hard Shell for ROG Ally X is your best bet. It fits the thicker body perfectly and has a massive compartment underneath for that bulky power adapter.

I spent yesterday measuring the X's new 36.9mm chassis against my old kits since I was worried about stick tension. I found most original cases definitely crush the sticks. I switched to the Tomtoc Arccos Series Carrying Bag for ROG Ally X which handles the extra depth. Quick tip: check for a molded interior. You need that extra vertical clearance to avoid putting pressure on the hall effect sensors.

Just to clarify, are you planning on adding a silicone grip or a shell later? That extra millimeter makes a huge difference with the X. Just a heads up, definitely avoid anything that feels tight around the triggers. If the case lid puts constant pressure on those Hall effect sensors, you are looking at potential calibration issues or even hardware failure down the line. Safety first, tbh.

Honestly its ridiculous how all these brands keep changing dimensions by just a few millimeters so our old gear becomes useless overnight. It feels like a total scam when you already spent a fortune on the device itself. Companies just dont care about compatibility anymore. I actually spent my whole paycheck on a new monitor setup last week so I am totally broke now... anyway.
