Hey everyone! I finally caved and treated myself to a Switch OLED today, and I’m absolutely loving that vibrant screen so far. However, it’s been a while since I’ve owned a handheld console, and looking at the sheer volume of accessories available online is honestly a bit overwhelming. I want to make sure I’m protecting my investment right from the start without wasting money on gimmicky stuff I don’t actually need.
I’ve already heard that a tempered glass screen protector is a non-negotiable because of the screen material, but I’m curious what else is truly "essential" for day-to-day use. Since the OLED has a much better kickstand than the original, do I still need a dedicated grip for long handheld sessions, or are the ergonomics good enough as they are? Also, I noticed the internal storage is only 64GB, which seems like it'll fill up fast, so I’m definitely looking for microSD card recommendations that offer the best bang for your buck.
For those of you who have had your OLED for a while, what are the top 3 items you couldn't live without? Also, is there a specific carrying case you recommend that fits the slightly larger dimensions of the OLED perfectly? Thanks in advance for the help!
honestly, i've used the SanDisk 256GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Card, amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch OLED, and Orzly Carry Case for Nintendo Switch OLED for months... best budget-friendly essentials tbh!
Hey, congrats on the OLED! That screen is highkey beautiful but honestly, you gotta be cautious with how you treat it. I've seen people scratch their rails using cheap hard-shell grips, so I would suggest being really picky with what you snap onto it.
For ergonomics, here is what I recommend after trying a few:
- Satisfye ZenGrip Pro for Nintendo Switch OLED: This is the gold standard for comfort. It makes the console feel like a pro controller, but it is bulky and wont fit in standard cases.
- Skull & Co. NeoGrip for Nintendo Switch OLED: This one is great because its actually dockable, tho it feels slightly less "locked in" than the Satisfye.
For storage, dont just buy the cheapest thing. You want reliability for your save data. I've used the Samsung EVO Select 512GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 for a year with zero issues. It's usually a better value than the SanDisk Extreme 512GB microSDXC UHS-I V30 unless you find a crazy sale.
Also, make sure to look at the Tomtoc Slim Case for Nintendo Switch OLED. It has a molded shell that prevents pressure on the thumbsticks... super important to avoid drift down the line!
> Also, I noticed the internal storage is only 64GB, which seems like it'll fill up fast...
I went through this last year! Seriously, that 64GB is basically gone after like two big games. Digital files are huge, and picking the right storage is CRITICAL because cheap cards can literally corrupt ur data. Ngl, I started with a generic one and lost 40 hours of Zelda... so I’m super cautious now!
Basically, you need a high-speed card so load times dont suck. I compared these:
- Samsung EVO Select 512GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 vs Silicon Power 512GB microSDXC UHS-I U3.
The Samsung is fantastic for reliability, but Silicon Power is usually the best bang for ur buck if youre on a budget.
For ergonomics, I love the Skull & Co. NeoGrip for Nintendo Switch OLED since its dockable and way cheaper than the Satisfye ZenGrip Pro for Nintendo Switch OLED. Both are way better for ur wrists than the stock rails. Enjoy the OLED!!
Same here!
