What accessories are absolutely essential for the ROG Ally X because I am freaking out a bit about getting the wrong stuff. I just picked mine up and I have a huge 14 hour flight from NYC to Tokyo next Friday and I need to make sure I have everything ready. I spent a long time looking at reviews and I saw people saying the original Ally cases wont fit because the X is thicker and has those different grips so now I dont know which carrying case to trust. I also keep reading about 100W chargers vs the 65W one it comes with and some people say you need the 100W for full turbo mode when docked but others say it doesnt matter? I have about $150 left to spend and I really dont want to waste it on junk that doesnt fit.

  • a good hardshell case that actually fits the new dimensions
  • a screen protector that doesnt ruin the colors
  • maybe a power bank that can actually keep up with this thing during a long flight

Do I need a special dock too or can I just use any USB-C hub? I'm so worried about bricking the battery or something if I use a cheap third party charger since I heard stories about that with the older model. What are you guys actually using day-to-day for the X specifically...

In my experience, skipping the 100W charger is a mistake for docking. Ive tried many setups and the Anker 737 Power Bank 24000mAh 140W is basically essential for a flight that long. For protection, the JSAUX Carrying Case for ROG Ally X fits the new thickness properly. Dont stress the screen protector, just grab the dbrand Tempered Glass Screen Protector. Any quality hub works fine.

Late to the party but be careful with cheap hubs. I almost fried my port once. dont risk it.

  • check pd specs
  • watch for heat My setup uses a high-wattage dock.

Like someone mentioned, the Anker power bank is a beast, but honestly its kinda like carrying a literal brick in your carry-on. If youre worried about weight or space for that NYC to Tokyo flight, I actually prefer the Baseus Blade 100W 20000mAh Laptop Power Bank. Its super slim and slides into a laptop sleeve or seat pocket way easier than the chunky ones. I gotta disagree slightly on the charger necessity tho. You wont brick the thing with the stock 65W plug, but having 100W is definitely better for bypass charging where the device runs off the wall power instead of the battery. For safety and reliability, I use the Anker 736 Charger Nano II 100W. It handles the heat way better than the cheapo brands you see on Amazon. Here is what I am actually using for the X specifically:

  • Case: The Spigen Rugged Armor Pro Hard Shell Case for ROG Ally X is great because it has enough depth for the new thicker grips and keeps the sticks safe.
  • Screen: Grab the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally X. Its basically invisible and super easy to apply without bubbles. Just a heads up, make sure whatever cable you use is actually rated for 100W. A lot of the scary stories come from people using old phone cables that cant handle the power draw... that is how you melt a port. Have a blast in Tokyo, ngl im pretty jealous of that trip.
