I just managed to secure a PS5 Pro, and I’m beyond excited to see those upgraded visuals in action! However, I’ve realized the base package is a bit bare-bones compared to the original. Since the disc drive and vertical stand are now sold separately, I'm trying to figure out what else is essential to truly maximize the new hardware. I’m considering the DualSense Edge for better precision, but I’m also wondering if I need a specific NVMe SSD to keep up with those massive Pro-enhanced patches. For those of you already prepping your setups, what are the absolute must-have accessories I should pick up to get the best experience right out of the box?
Ok so, in my experience, Sony being stingy with the stand is a total bummer. I would suggest prioritizing storage cuz those 4K patches are huge!
- Samsung 990 Pro 4TB NVMe SSD: Insanely fast but expensive.
- WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe SSD: Great value, basically the same performance.
Honestly, I had issues with the Sony DualSense Edge Wireless Controller battery life... it's not as good as expected for the price. Go for the SSD first!! gl
I'd actually suggest a different approach - honestly, since the Pro already comes with a 2TB internal drive (which is double the launch model!), I dont think a massive 4TB SSD is the *first* thing you need. I mean, I get it, those 4K patches are beefy, but u've got some breathing room out of the box compared to the original console.
In my experience over the years, it's better to lean into the new tech specs the Pro actually offers. If u want that 'elite' feel, here is what I am grabbing instead:
• Victrix Pro BFG Wireless Controller for PS5 - Everyone mentions the Edge, but this is lowkey better for customization. It has modular parts so u can swap the sticks around, which is sick if u play different genres like fighters or shooters.
• PULSE Elite Wireless Headset - To really hear the upgraded 3D audio processing, these are a must. They use planar magnetic drivers and it literally sounds like ur in the game world. Plus, the hidden mic is a nice touch.
• TP-Link Archer BE800 Wi-Fi 7 Router - The PS5 Pro finally supports Wi-Fi 7! If ur still on an old router, ur missing out on the stability and speed the new hardware is actually built for.
• PlayStation 5 Disc Drive for PS5 Digital Edition Consoles - Since u mentioned the base is bare-bones, if u have any physical games, this is priority #1 cuz they're selling out everywhere...
Anyway, id probably skip that Samsung 990 Pro for now and enjoy the stock 2TB while u kit out the rest of the setup first. but yeah, gl with the new rig!! 👍
I would suggest the Crucial T500 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD with Heatsink. It hits 7400MB/s and is way better value than most flagship drives. Essential for patches... u getting the disc drive too?
