Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and picked up the ROG Ally X. I am super excited about that massive 80Wh battery and the sleek black finish, but now I am realizing I need to kit it out properly before I take it on my commute. Since it is a bit thicker and has slightly different ergonomics than the original Ally, I am worried my old cases or generic grips won't fit quite right.
I am mostly looking for suggestions on a solid carrying case that actually fits the new dimensions without pressing down on the sticks. I also want to take advantage of the dual USB-C ports, so if anyone has found a great portable dock or a high-wattage power bank that plays nice with the new hardware, I would love to hear about it. I am trying to avoid buying stuff that ends up being poor quality.
Here are a few things I am specifically looking for:
What are your absolute must-have accessories for the ROG Ally X so far? I really want to make sure I am protecting this investment properly!
Stumbled upon this today and figured I would chime in. Since you just dropped a ton of cash on the Ally X, no need to go overboard on accessories if you are smart about it. Honestly, you can save a lot by skipping the fancy gamer brands. For the screen, dont bother with those overpriced kits. The ivoler 3-Pack Tempered Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally is usually under fifteen bucks and comes with an alignment frame that makes it foolproof. For the dock, the JSAUX 6-in-1 Docking Station HB0603 is a total steal. It handles 100W PD, so it hits that 30W turbo mode perfectly without the premium price tag. I also recommend the Skull & Co. Skin, CQC and FPS Thumb Grip Set. You get three different pairs in one pack for cheap, so you can test which height works best for your aim. Better to play it safe and save some cash for games, ngl.
I spent way too much time analyzing the PD profiles before realizing you dont need to spend big bucks on a dock. I ended up with the Jsaux 6-in-1 Docking Station HB0603 for Handhelds because it hits the 30W turbo mode perfectly without the brand tax. Also, the Skull & Co. Thumb Grip Set for ROG Ally and Steam Deck is way cheaper than custom sticks but gives the same leverage for FPS games.
Coming back to this, congrats on the upgrade! I spent way too much time geeking out over PD specs to make sure I wasnt wasting money on overpriced ROG branded gear. To hit that 30W turbo mode, you basically just need a charger that supports the 20V/3.25A profile for the handshake. I saved a lot of cash by picking up the Ugreen Nexode 65W GaN Desktop Charger instead of a bulky official dock. For the screen, I honestly recommend the amFilm OneTouch Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally. It is super cheap for a 2-pack and the alignment frame is basically idiot-proof, which is nice if you have shaky hands like me lol. For the sticks, the Skull & Co. Skin, CQC and FPS Thumb Grip Set is probably the best value out there. You get three different heights for like ten bucks, and they fit the X sticks perfectly without slipping.
Congrats on picking up the X! Honestly that battery life is a game changer. Since the ergonomics changed, you definitely have to be careful with older accessories because they just wont fit right anymore. For a case, I've been using the Tomtoc Arccos Carrying Bag for Steam Deck and ROG Ally and it fits the thicker body like a glove without putting pressure on the sticks. For the screen, dont overthink it, just get the dbrand Tempered Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally. It comes with an alignment frame that makes the install painless and bubble-free. To hit 30W Turbo while docked, the JSAUX 6-in-1 Docking Station HB0603 is solid. If you need a power bank for your commute, the Anker 737 Power Bank 24000mAh 140W is the gold standard. For FPS games, the Skull & Co. Thumb Grip Set for ROG Ally gives great precision. Enjoy the new handheld!
