Hey everyone! I just picked up the new ASUS ROG Ally X and I am absolutely loving the extra battery life. However, I noticed it is quite a bit thicker than the original model, and my old slim case is definitely a no-go now.

I am looking for something that offers solid protection because I travel a lot for work. Here are a few things I am specifically looking for:

  • Enough depth to accommodate the new thicker grips
  • A hard shell to prevent stick drift in my backpack
  • A little extra room for my 65W wall charger

Since the Ally X is still relatively new, I am struggling to find verified fits. Does anyone have a recommendation for a case that fits the Ally X perfectly without being too bulky?

Just saw this thread and honestly, I went through a bit of a trial and error phase with my Ally X too. I was trying to save some cash by using my old Steam Deck case, but the grips on the Ally X are just different enough to make it a tight squeeze. After looking at a bunch of brand comparisons, I realized that some of the 'one size fits all' cases are actually better for the X because of that added depth. I ended up settling on the Tomtoc Arccos-G42 Carrying Bag for Handheld Console and it has been great. It is not a super rigid hard shell, but it has enough structure to protect the sticks in my commute bag. Plus, it fits my Baseus 65W GaN5 USB C Wall Charger without bulging out. If you want something more traditional, the JSAUX Carrying Case for Steam Deck and ROG Ally BG0102 is usually cheaper than the official ASUS ones and fits the thicker X model pretty well. Definitely worth checking out those two.

I am pretty paranoid about my screen and sticks when I am on the road, so I spent a while looking into this. Since the Ally X is chunkier, most of the old slim cases will definitely cause stick drift over time from the constant pressure in a bag. I ended up going with the Tomtoc FancyCase for Steam Deck and ROG Ally X and it has been solid. It has these molded sections for the joysticks so they aren't being squished, which was my main concern. It has enough depth for the new grips and there is a little flap that protects the screen from scratches. Another reliable option is the Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case for ROG Ally. It is a bit bigger but it is basically a tank. It fits the 65W charger in the bottom storage area comfortably. I always prefer a bit of extra bulk if it means my device survives a drop or a cramped flight.

Yo, congrats on the Ally X! That battery life is a total game changer, right? But yeah, the new ergonomics definitely make it a chunky boy compared to the original. I went through three cases before finding a setup that didnt feel like I was crushing the joysticks every time I zipped it up. Honestly, if you want that perfect balance of protection and space for the charger, you should check out the JSAUX Large Capacity Carrying Case for ROG Ally X BG0106. Most universal cases claim to fit, but they usually put way too much pressure on the sticks since the X grips are much deeper. This specific JSAUX model has a deeper mold that lets the console sit flush without the sticks clicking in. A few reasons why this works for travel:

  • It uses a hard EVA shell that handles being stuffed into a backpack without flexing.
  • The interior flap covers the screen to prevent scratches but also acts as a built-in stand.
  • You can actually fit the ASUS 65W USB-C GaN Charger in the mesh pocket without it bulging against the screen, which is rare for slim-ish cases. If you want something even more rugged for heavy travel, maybe look at the Spigen Rugged Armor Pro for ROG Ally X. It is a bit bulkier, but it feels like an absolute tank. Tbh, the JSAUX is probably the sweet spot for most people tho... just make sure you get the version specifically labeled for the X!

To add to the point above, I would suggest being very cautious with any case that claims to be a universal fit for handhelds. The Ally X has a specific center of gravity and thickness that might lead to some unwanted pressure on the triggers if the fit isnt perfect. I have a quick clarifying question tho: are you planning to put this case inside a stuffed carry-on or a daily commuter bag? The amount of external crush-force varies a lot based on your travel setup, and that dictates how rigid the shell needs to be. In the meantime, you might want to consider these factors:

  • Make sure to check if there is a rigid internal divider to keep the charger away from the screen.
  • Be careful with cases that use simple elastic straps, as they can lose tension over time.
  • I would suggest looking for a molded interior that specifically accounts for the new grip depth. Honestly, just go with any of the hardshell options from dbrand or maybe look at what Waterfield is doing for high-end carry. You really cant go wrong with those brands if youre looking for long-term reliability and safety for your gear...

Honestly, I am in the exact same boat as you and it is driving me crazy. I have been crunching the numbers on the dimensions because the Ally X is actually quite a bit thicker than people realize. We are looking at a significant increase in total volume compared to the original model especially when you account for those deeper palm grips. I have spent the last week measuring my existing gear with digital calipers and basically everything I own is just a few millimeters too shallow. It is so frustrating because I really dont want to risk any stick drift from vertical pressure on the joysticks when the case is zipped shut. I have already wasted money on two different generic bags that claimed to fit larger handhelds, but once you toss in the 65W brick and a decent cable, the lid bulge is terrifying. I am honestly worried that if I keep trying to squeeze it into my old transit bags, I am gonna end up damaging the screen or the shell integrity. It feels like we are in this weird limbo where the hardware is out but the accessory manufacturers are still playing catch up with their molds. I have been checking listings every single day for something with a deep enough cavity but I have come up totally empty so far. If you find something that actually respects the new ergonomic depth and the beefier Z-axis without being a literal suitcase, please let me know because I am totally stuck too.
