I just picked up the new ROG Ally X and I am absolutely loving it, but I am terrified of getting a scratch on the screen. Since the chassis has some slight design tweaks compared to the original model, I am worried about whether older screen protectors will fit perfectly edge-to-edge without any gaps.
I am specifically looking for something that maintains high touch sensitivity and doesn't dim the display too much. I usually prefer tempered glass for the extra protection, but I am curious if there are any high-quality anti-glare options that don't blur the image. Does anyone have a specific brand they have tested on the Ally X yet that goes on bubble-free and fits the new dimensions perfectly?
In my experience, the screen tech is the same but the chassis changes make fitment tricky. Basically, cheap protectors leave gaps that trap dust and scratch the glass anyway... its kinda risky and honestly not worth it.
Just found this thread and honestly, after years of handheld launches, I've learned that bezel depth matters MORE than screen size for a flush fit. It's why older protectors leave gaps! I've been doing some research and the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass for ROG Ally X is a really solid alternative to what's been mentioned. It actually goes edge-to-edge without dimming anything. I'd still be CAREFUL during the install tho...
In my experience, go with name brands and avoid cheap glass cuz a bad fit traps grit that ruins ur screen. Safety is key, so honestly don't risk your expensive Ally!
Solid advice 👍
So basically the consensus is that the dbrand ROG Ally X Tempered Glass Screen Protector and jsaux Matte Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally are the main picks people suggest. Honestly, I've been doing this for years and I've unfortunately had issues with those pricey brands. I once spent way too much on a protector that didn't even fit right... it was just not as good as expected and felt like a total waste of money. If you want a solid fit without overpaying, I'd look at these:
Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
TL;DR: Bezel depth and adhesive thickness are the real fitment killers, and getting a flush seal is a total nightmare. Totally agree with SequoiaScribe about the bezel depth... unfortunately, manufacturers keep tweaking these tolerances by tiny fractions and it ruins the fit for us long-term handheld fans. I have had issues with glass that was not as good as expected because the adhesive layer thickness actually interfered with the touch sensitivity response times. Its honestly disappointing when you spend good money and the specs just dont line up perfectly. Quick questions to help narrow it down tho... are you prioritizing maximum optical clarity to keep those 500 nits of brightness, or is reflection diffusion your main goal? Also, what kind of budget are we working with for this?
