Hey everyone! I just upgraded to the ROG Ally X and I'm super paranoid about damaging it during my commute. Since the X is noticeably thicker and has those beefier grips compared to the original, I'm finding that my old slim cases just don't cut it anymore.
I really need something that prioritizes safety above all else. I am specifically looking for:
I've seen a few options online but I'm worried about the fit. Which carrying case offers the best protection for the ROG Ally X?
Yo! Congrats on the upgrade, the Ally X is a beast. I totally get the paranoia about the thickness tho. Most of the official branded cases are way overpriced imo. I found that the JSAUX Large Carrying Case for ROG Ally/Steam Deck BG0102 is honestly the best bang for your buck right now. It is deep enough for those beefier sticks and has a massive storage area underneath for the brick and cables. If you want even more room for cheap, look at the Tomtoc Arccos-G47 Travel Bag for Handhelds. It is basically a padded sling bag that fits everything without breaking the bank. I have dropped mine once or twice and it held up great. Save your money for games instead of a 60 dollar case lol. Just make sure the straps are tight and you are good to go.
If youre looking to save cash without compromising shell integrity, check the Butterfox Large Carrying Case for ROG Ally. It has excellent Z-axis clearance to prevent stick compression on the thicker Ally X. Its basically half the price of the big name brands but uses high-density EVA. It fits the 65W charger perfectly in the bottom compartment without adding unnecessary bulk.
Saw your post earlier and wanted to chime in because I'm super protective of my gear too. Honestly, if you want something that prioritizes physical safety and has deep cutouts for the sticks, look at the Skull & Co. MaxCarry Case for ROG Ally and Steam Deck. It has a hard shell and enough clearance so you wont get stick drift from pressure. It is also pretty budget friendly at around 25 bucks which is nice. One tip: definitely check out the Retro Game Corps website or their YouTube channel. Russ does amazing fit tests for these handhelds and he usually confirms if the Ally X grips fit properly in these older universal cases. Also, maybe grab an amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for ROG Ally X just for that extra peace of mind. Better safe than sorry when youre commuting every day tbh.
Would love to know this too
I was just looking into this same thing because the Ally X is such a chunky handheld compared to the original. If you want something that basically feels like a tank, you should check out the Spigen Rugged Armor Pro for ROG Ally and Steam Deck. I have used Spigen stuff for my phones for years and their handheld cases are just as solid. The main reason I like it is the EVA foam shell. It is super stiff and doesnt flex at all when you press on it, so you dont have to worry about the joysticks getting crushed in a backpack. It has a built in velcro strap to keep the device from sliding around, which is important since the Ally X has those bigger grips that shift the weight compared to the Z1 Extreme model. Another solid choice if you want to save a few bucks but still get that deep interior is the Syntech Hard Carrying Case for Steam Deck and ROG Ally Large. It is surprisingly spacious. Like, you can actually fit the full charging brick and even a small power bank in the bottom compartment without it bulging against the screen. Most slim cases claim to fit the charger but then you see the screen pressing against the mesh... definitely not what you want. The Syntech one is basically a mini suitcase for your Ally X. It might be a bit bulky for a messenger bag, but for pure protection and value, its honestly hard to beat.
