I'm super hyped for the Switch 2 launch, but I'm already a bit nervous about keeping it safe when I'm on the go. Since the rumors suggest it'll be slightly larger than the original, I’m worried my old cases won't cut it. I’m specifically looking for a rugged hard-shell option that can survive a drop, ideally with a soft microfiber lining to prevent any screen scratches. It also needs to have enough clearance so the joysticks don't get drifted while packed away. Does anyone have recommendations for brands that prioritize heavy-duty durability over just aesthetics? Which specific case do you think will provide the absolute best impact protection for the new console?

Tbh Orzly Carry Case for Nintendo Switch beats tomtoc Slim Case for Nintendo Switch for value ($15). Roomier and pretty rugged. Best choice. Your gonna love it lol!

Sooo in my experience, I've seen way too many people skimp on cases only to regret it after a nasty drop. Over the years, I've tried basically everything out there, and I've learned that real protection is about joystick clearance as much as it is about the shell toughness.

For your situation, I recommend looking at Waterfield Designs CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2. It’s definitely pricey, but the ballistic nylon is super tough and the plush lining wont scratch your screen.

Alternatively, the Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case for Nintendo Switch 2 is a beast for pure impact protection. It’s a bit bulkier, but it has huge interior clearance so the joysticks dont get squashed—definitely prevents drift issues. I've dropped my current setup in one of these on concrete and it didn't even flinch. Idk, cheaping out on protection just isn't worth the anxiety. GL!

Sooo basically, I would suggest comparing the Spigen Rugged Armor Pro for Nintendo Switch OLED vs the Butterfox Large Hard Shell Carrying Case. The Spigen is literally a tank for impact protection, but the Butterfox has much better joystick clearance for the price. Honestly tho, I’d be careful... I mean, wait no, since the new console is bigger, current cases might be too tight, right?

Like someone mentioned, the size shift is the most nerve-wracking part about this launch! I am super paranoid about the fit because if it is even a tiny bit too snug, you are basically asking for stick drift or screen pressure. I totally agree that we have to be careful with those older rugged cases since they wont have the right clearance for a bigger chassis. Since you are focusing on heavy-duty reliability, how much extra bulk are you actually willing to carry? Are you looking for something slim enough to slide into a backpack, or are you after a massive standalone vault that can survive a huge drop? I really want to make sure the joystick clearance is legit before committing to anything!
