Which carrying cases offer the best protection for ASUS ROG Ally X?

Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the ASUS ROG Ally X, and man, the performance and battery life are night and day compared to the original. But here’s my dilemma: this thing is a bit of a beast compared to the first model. It feels more premium and the ergonomics are definitely improved, but that also means it’s slightly thicker and the handgrips are more pronounced. I’m really worried about finding a case that actually fits it properly without putting unnecessary pressure on the joysticks or those new hall effect sensors.

I’m currently trying to squeeze it into a generic slim case I had for my original Ally, but it feels way too tight. I’m genuinely concerned that if I toss it in my backpack for my daily commute, the constant pressure is going to cause stick drift or, heaven forbid, damage the screen. I travel on the train every day, so my bag gets bumped around quite a bit in the overhead bins and during the rush hour shuffle. I need something that offers serious drop protection but isn't as massive as a full-on Pelican flight case.

A few specific details I’m looking for: First, it definitely needs to be a hardshell. I don’t really trust those soft sleeves anymore after a close call with a coffee spill. Second, I’d love a bit of extra room for a charging cable and maybe a small microfiber cloth, even though the Ally X battery is massive and I don't need the brick as often. Lastly, it has to have a molded interior specifically for the X's dimensions so the device doesn't slide around inside. I've seen some brands like Tomtoc or Spigen mentioned in passing, but I’m not sure if their current lineups have been updated for the thicker chassis of the Ally X.

Has anyone else here made the switch to the X and found a carrying case that fits like a glove? I’d love to hear what you’re using to keep your handheld safe, especially if you’ve found something that balances portability with ruggedness. Are there any specific models I should avoid because they’re actually designed for the slimmer original Ally?

yo, Id definately suggest the Tomtoc FancyCase-G42 over the Spigen Rugged Armor Pro.

- Tomtoc: fits the Xs thicker grips perfectly.
- Spigen: way too tight on the hall effect sticks.

Tomtoc is basically the best choice here. gl!

Honestly, the market for X-specific cases is still catching up and many are just rebranded old stock. Quick question tho—are you planning to use a silicone skin or a grip on it? That extra bulk changes everything for joystick clearance! I think the Skull & Co. EDC Case for ROG Ally X looks amazing, but I wanna be 100% sure it fits your specific setup. Safety first!!

So I've spent way too much time testing fitments for the X cuz the ergonomics are literally a different beast compared to the OG model. The increased depth of the handgrips means most 'universal' handheld cases or slim sleeves put way too much torque on those hall effect sticks, which is exactly what you wanna avoid for long-term stick health. Honestly, I totally get the coffee spill fear—I lost a device that way once and it seriously sucked lol.

If you're looking for that perfect molded interior without the bulk of a flight case, here's what I've found actually fits the new dimensions:

- JSAUX Carrying Case for ROG Ally X - This one is specifically redesigned for the thicker chassis and has a solid hardshell that doesn't flex much under pressure, which is great for backpack commutes.
- Butterfox Large Carry Case for ROG Ally X - This is a decent option if you need room for a cable and a microfiber cloth. The molded bottom keeps the device totally secure.

It depends on your needs, but just make sure the listing says it's for the 'X' specifically. If it's built for the original Ally, it's gonna be way too tight. gl!

Honestly, I've been super paranoid about my X too since it's such a pricey upgrade. I used a generic case for a week and noticed the sticks were literally clicking against the lid when I closed it—SCARY stuff. You really gotta find something that accounts for those beefier grips so the screen and sticks aren't taking the brunt of the weight.

Here is why I'm so happy with my current setup:
- Stick Clearance: You need a molded top that has "wells" for the sticks. If the lid is flat, it’s pressing down on those hall effect sensors every time you zip it up which is a nightmare for long-term durability.
- Grip Depth: Since the X is chunkier, a case designed for the OG Ally will force the triggers to stay partially depressed and that's just asking for trouble with the internal springs ngl.
- Drop Safety: Only trust a hard EVA shell. Soft sleeves are basically just scratch protectors and do NOTHING for a real drop on a train floor.

I ended up going with the Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case for ROG Ally X and it's been a total lifesaver. It fits the extra girth of the X perfectly and there's a nice little storage area under the console for my cloth and a thin cable. It's super secure tho!
