Which carrying cases provide the best protection for the new Switch?

I just picked up the new Switch and I’m honestly a bit paranoid about scratching that beautiful screen or damaging the joysticks while it's in my backpack. I’ve been looking at a few options, but I can't decide between a slim hardshell case or one of those bulkier 'travel' cases that holds the dock too. I definitely need something with a microfiber lining and enough room for at least 10 game cartridges. Are the official licensed cases sturdy enough, or should I be looking at third-party brands like Skull & Co or Spigen for better impact resistance? I'd love to hear what you guys are using to keep yours mint—any specific recommendations for a durable case under $40?

Ok so, iirc the main thing is the EVA shell density... basically, you want high impact resistance without the bulk. For your situation, i'd seriously skip the official cases cuz they're lowkey flimsy tbh. I've been using the Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case for Nintendo Switch and it's actually perfect. It has a rigid shell, fits 10 games, and the microfiber lining is legit soft. Plus, it fits under $40 easily!!

Ok so, I've been through like five cases since launch day, and honestly, I'd actually suggest a different approach than just going for the thickest hardshell you can find. I totally get the anxiety cuz I literally dropped mine on a tile floor last month... it was terrifying lol. While the others suggested Skull & Co. Maxcarry Case for Nintendo Switch, I've had a different experience where I find those grip-style cases a bit too bulky for a daily backpack commute.

If you're highkey worried about stick drift or screen pressure, you gotta look at the Tomtoc FancyCase-A05 Slim Case for Nintendo Switch. It’s seriously amazing because:

1. It uses a military-grade EVA shell that's thin but incredibly stiff, so it won't crush under your books.
2. The joysticks are recessed so they don't get clicked down constantly.
3. It’s got that soft microfiber lining you wanted and holds 10 games easily.

Basically, high-density protection doesn't always mean more bulk! Plus, it's usually under $25, which leaves you extra cash for a Spigen Glas.tR Slim Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch. Better safe than sorry, right? gl! 👍

In my experience, I totally get that new-console anxiety!! Honestly, I spent way too much money over the years trying to find the "perfect" balance. When I first started commuting with my Switch, I used one of those flimsy licensed cases and actually ended up with a tiny scratch on the back because the internal mesh was too rough... definitely a bummer.

So basically, if ur worried about the joysticks, you gotta look at the internal clearance. The technical side of it is simple: you want a "hardshell" made of high-density EVA foam. If you can't press the center of the case in with your thumb, it's solid enough for a backpack. I've found that the third-party brands like Spigen or even some of the more rugged designs from Skull & Co are much better than the official Nintendo ones. They usually have those molded grooves so the joysticks aren't being squished.

For your budget, you're in the sweet spot. You don't need to spend $40. Most of the really good ones are like $20-$25. I ended up ditching my huge travel bag for a slim hardshell that still fits 10 games. My current setup has a microfiber divider that protects the screen and holds the cartridges, which is basically all you need. Lesson learned: don't buy the "travel" cases that hold the dock unless you're actually moving house lol. They're way too bulky for daily use. Stick to a rigid slim case and ur golden! 👍
