Im honestly so fed up with these cheap third party chargers I got off Amazon. One of them stopped working after two weeks and the other one is so finicky you have to wiggle the controller for like five minutes just to get the orange light to blink. Its driving me crazy because I just want to play my games after work without worrying about a dead battery. I need something reliable that actually fits the controllers properly.
Should I just cave and buy the official Sony one or is there a better brand out there that actually lasts more than a month...
Unfortunately, my first cheap dock actually started smoking one night.
To add to the point above:
Honestly, ive gone through a dozen of these setups over the years testing for input lag and battery health. Most third-party stuff uses the USB-C port on top which is just a recipe for disaster because the pins wear out or the alignment is slightly off. You want something that uses the cradle pins on the bottom. Just go for the Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense Charging Station. It sits right at $29.99 so it fits your budget perfectly. The click-in design is way more reliable than those cheap spring-loaded docks. Plus, it doesnt have those blinding neon light bars that some of the off-brand ones use... it just uses the controller's own light bar to show status. I’ve had mine since launch day and it still charges both of my controllers to full every single night without fail. Dont waste another $15 on junk.
Re: Same boat, watching this - unfortunately, most of these third-party docks are just trash when you look at the actual circuitry. I've torn down a couple and the voltage regulation is basically non-existent... it's a miracle they dont fry controllers more often tbh. I've had issues with almost every brand mentioned except the official one because they use the contact pins on the bottom rather than the top port. If you want something reliable that fits the 35 dollar limit, check out the 8Bitdo Dual Charging Dock for PS5. It's built way better than the generic junk and uses those bottom cradle pins so you arent constantly stressing the usb-c port. No annoying neon lights either, just a subtle glow that wont keep you awake. Ngl, if you're really worried about battery health, you're better off using a dedicated Satechi 20W USB-C PD Wall Charger with some quality cables, but for a dock, 8Bitdo is the only one I'd trust right now.
Same boat, watching this
No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
Regarding what #1 said about Honestly, ive gone through a dozen of these...

Man, reading about these cheap chargers reminds me of my brother-in-law back when the PS4 first dropped. He was so cheap about accessories that he literally tried to splice together his own charging dock using some old phone cables and a cardboard shoe box. It was a total disaster.
