Hey everyone! I’ve been a loyal PS4 player for years now, and while I’m not quite ready to make the jump to the next-gen consoles yet, I feel like my current audio setup is really holding me back. I’ve been using a cheap pair of earbuds plugged into the controller, but the sound quality is pretty flat and the spatial awareness is almost non-existent. It’s getting frustrating, especially when I’m playing games like Apex Legends or The Last of Us Part II where hearing footsteps or environmental cues is a total game-changer.
I’ve spent the last few days browsing different subreddits and tech blogs, but I’m honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options. There’s so much conflicting info out there! Some people swear by the official PlayStation Gold or Platinum headsets because of the integrated 7.1 virtual surround sound, while others say third-party brands like SteelSeries or HyperX offer much better build quality and mic clarity for the same price.
I’m looking for something that is specifically optimized for the PS4’s hardware. My main priorities are comfort for long gaming sessions (I wear glasses, so clamping force is a big deal) and a decent microphone that won't pick up too much background noise when I'm in a party chat. My budget is around $150, but I’m willing to stretch it a little if the jump in quality is worth it. Also, I’d prefer something wireless, but I’m worried about latency or the battery dying mid-match.
For those of you still rocking the PS4, which headset has given you the most immersive experience? Are there specific models that really nail that 3D audio feel on this console, or should I just stick to a high-end stereo pair? Any recommendations or personal experiences would be super helpful!
I feel u on the earbud struggle... that flat sound is basically playing on hard mode lol. I've been on PS4 for years and honestly, I've tried a ton of setups. For your budget and the glasses situation, I'd definately look at these two options:
* HyperX Cloud II Wireless Gaming Headset: This is like the gold standard for comfort. The clamping force is super light so it wont crush your glasses, and the build quality is way better than the official Sony ones imo.
* <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+7%2B+Wireless+Gaming+Headset&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis 7+ Wireless Gaming Headset: This one has that ski-goggle headband which is GOAT for long sessions. The mic is also really decent at blocking out background noise.
Basically, if u want pure comfort, go HyperX. If u want better features and a sleeker mic, get the SteelSeries. Both work great with the PS4's hardware and the latency is basically non-existent. Good luck!!
Ok so, I went through this last year. I was basically in the exact same spot, trying to stretch my PS4 life while wearing thick-rimmed glasses, and man, the struggle with clamping force is REAL. I actually went through three different sets before I found something that didn't give me a headache after an hour.
I ended up focusing on technical specs over the "gaming" marketing fluff. For a budget-friendly route that hits that $100-$150 sweet spot, I tried out the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+7P%2B+Wireless&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ Wireless and the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro.
Here’s what I learned from the experience:
* The ski-goggle headband on the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+is+a+lifesaver+for+g&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries is a lifesaver for glasses because it pulls the weight off your ears.
* High-end stereo with a solid driver (like 50mm) usually beats cheap "7.1 virtual" gimmicks anyway.
* If you're worried about battery, look for stuff rated for 30+ hours so you aren't charging every night.
Honestly, I found that the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+1+Wireless+for+PlayStation&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless for PlayStation was a total sleeper hit for way less money, like $100. It uses the same drivers as their expensive models but stays light on the head. Just sharing cuz it saved my wallet! gl with the search!
Sooo I found a great setup for cheap! My current pair:
1. Fits over glasses
2. Sounds AMAZING
Actually loves the battery life too. Definitely worth looking for value deals... it's a total game-changer!
tl;dr: Razer BlackShark V2 Pro Wireless Gaming Headset is incredible for glasses and has solid ps4 reliability. honestly i spent way too much time obsessing over specs before i pulled the trigger. eventually i grabbed the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro Wireless Gaming Headset because the ear cushions looked like clouds... and they totally are. no pinching with my glasses at all which was a huge relief. the wireless connection has been rock solid on my ps4 which was a big worry of mine. no lag at all and the mic is actually way clearer than most other headsets i tried. if you keep an eye on sales you can definitely snag these for under 150. im really satisfied with the build quality too... feels like theyll actually last. worth every penny for the comfort alone!
