Which headset offers the best audio quality for PS4 gaming?

I’ve been rocking the basic mono earbud that came with my PS4 for way too long now, and I think it’s finally time for a serious upgrade. I’ve noticed that I’m missing out on so much atmosphere in games like Ghost of Tsushima and I really want to hear those directional cues in Warzone without guessing where shots are coming from.

I’ve spent the last few days browsing online reviews, but it feels like every site has a different best list. I’m torn between going with something official like the PlayStation Platinum Wireless headset or looking at third-party brands like SteelSeries or HyperX. I really value crisp highs and deep bass, but I also need something that won't make my ears hurt after a two-hour session.

A couple of things I’m specifically wondering about:

  • Does 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound actually make a big difference on the PS4, or is stereo good enough?
  • Is it better to get a headset that plugs directly into the controller or one that uses a USB dongle for better data transfer?

I am okay with spending a bit more if the quality is genuinely there, but I don't want to pay just for a brand name. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the technical specs and just want something that sounds amazing out of the box.

If you’ve been using a specific headset on your PS4 that has blown you away in terms of audio clarity and immersion, which one would you recommend?

Honestly, I would suggest the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset for your situation. It is basically the gold standard for comfort and audio quality without paying a massive brand tax. Going from that mono earbud is gonna change ur life lol. To answer your tech questions... basically 7.1 is mostly marketing fluff. Good stereo imaging is way better for hearing shots in Warzone iirc. I always prefer using a USB dongle over the controller jack cuz it gets more power and sounds cleaner overall. If you really want wireless, the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+7P%2B+Wireless+Gaming+Headset&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ Wireless Gaming Headset is reallyyy good but watch the price. Just make sure to check if you actually need fancy features before dropping huge cash. Be careful with the PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset cuz the hinges can be fragile... I mean, they break way too easily. gl!

  • Razer BlackShark V2 X USB vs <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+1+Wired&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wired
  • Arctis had issues with build quality.
  • Choice: V2 X for $60. Use USB; 7.1 unfortunately distorts audio way too much.
