ive been playing a ton of returnal lately and my old cheap earbuds just arent cutting it for the 3D audio stuff sony keeps talking about. im looking to spend maybe 150 bucks tops and i want them by next week before i start my vacation.

im stuck between the official pulse 3d ones and the steelseries arctis nova 7p. the pulse ones seem like the safe bet for the tempest engine but ive heard the comfort isnt great for long sessions and i play for hours at a time usually. i live in a noisy apartment in chicago so i need something that seals well. which one actually delivers the best 3D audio experience for the ps5?

Before you buy, do you wear glasses? Thats gonna affect the acoustic seal and sub-bass response in a noisy place. In my experience with angled 53mm drivers, the HyperX Cloud III Wireless provides much better passive isolation and imaging than the Pulse. Quick tip: cycle through all five HRTF profiles in the PS5 sound settings to find the one that matches your ear height for the best spatial accuracy.

> im stuck between the official pulse 3d ones and the steelseries arctis nova 7p. ^ This. Also, i saw this earlier and i have been thinking about your noisy apartment situation. Chicago traffic is no joke lol. Before you drop your hard-earned cash tho, i gotta ask... how big is your head? Like seriously, do you generally find that headsets feel tight or do you have smaller ears? I would suggest being really cautious about the Pulse 3D if you are doing marathon Returnal sessions. The earcups are pretty shallow and that pleather starts peeling way faster than it should for the price, which is a total bummer. If you want something that actually seals out that city noise without breaking the bank, you might want to consider the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 Wireless. It usually sits right at that 150 mark or even lower if you catch a sale. The passive noise isolation is miles better than the SteelSeries imo, and the memory foam is actually plush enough for long runs. The SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless is decent but honestly the seal can be hit or miss depending on your jaw shape. Make sure to check the return policy if you go that route just in case the comfort system doesnt actually fit you right. Safety first when spending a buck fifty! You really dont want to be stuck with something that hurts your ears while you are trying to sweat it out in Biome 4. Just keep an eye on the hinge points on the Novas too, they can be a bit finicky if you arent careful with them.

Been thinking about this for a few hours and i gotta agree that the official gear is a solid baseline. Honestly, i was super satisfied with the technical side once i messed with the hrtf settings. Switching to open-back studio headphones later on really changed the game tho... it makes the soundstage feel way wider for those long chicago nights.
