I just got a Switch OLED for my birthday and I already ran out of space after downloading like three games lol. I had no idea the storage was so small?? I looked online for cards but there are so many letters like U3 and V30 and A2 and I am literally so lost. I just want to play Zelda and maybe some Mario games with my kids without it lagging.
My budget is like 40 bucks max and I live near a Best Buy so I can go there today. Is there a specific brand that is better or does any card work? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I dont want to buy the wrong one and break my console...
Honestly, the 64gb internal storage on the OLED is a joke for modern games. I have tested several cards and unfortunately many cheap options just dont hit the mark for load times. If you are going to Best Buy today, stay away from the SanDisk Ultra 256GB microSDXC UHS-I because the random read speeds are honestly disappointing for A1 rated cards. You really need an A2 rated card for better performance. I had issues with generic store brands before, so stick to something like the Samsung EVO Select 256GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 A2. It is usually under 30 bucks and offers way more stability than the Ultra. If you find a sale, the SanDisk Extreme 256GB microSDXC UHS-I V30 A2 is technically superior with better write speeds, tho the Switch hardware bottleneck means you wont see the full benefit. Stick with the Samsung... its the best value for your 40 bucks.
Wait, before you head out to Best Buy, how many games are you actually planning on buying digitally? If you mostly buy physical cartridges you can get away with a smaller card, but digital titles like Zelda are massive. Ive been through a few and you gotta be careful with those speed ratings. I would suggest checking these:
