I just upgraded to a Series X, but my old 1080p screen isn't cutting it anymore. I’m looking for a monitor with HDMI 2.1 that handles VRR and HDR well. I’m torn between an OLED or a fast IPS panel. Which specific models offer the smoothest 4K 120Hz performance for console gaming?

Ok so, if you're looking for that 4K 120Hz sweet spot without spending a fortune on OLED, I'd honestly go with the Gigabyte M28U 28" 144Hz 4K Gaming Monitor. It's basically the king of value right now. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports that work perfectly with the Series X VRR, so no screen tearing at all.

Another solid pick is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A, which handles HDR a bit better than the Gigabyte in my experience. Both are fast IPS, so you get great colors without the burn-in risk. GL with the setup!

yo, congrats on the Series X upgrade!! honestly, making the jump from 1080p is huge, but I've gotta be a bit cautious here cuz HDMI 2.1 monitors can be a literal minefield with flickering and VRR issues. in my experience, if youre lookin' to save some cash while still getting that elite 4K 120Hz feel, you should basically check out the Gigabyte M28U 28" 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor. I've tried many panels over the years, and this one is the most reliable budget-friendly pick that actually handles the Series X features without breaking the bank (usually around $450-$500).

Another solid, safe bet is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A 28" 4K 144Hz HDR Monitor. It’s super stable with VRR, which is basically essential for keeping things smooth on console. Just be careful with ultra-cheap brands... they often claim HDR but it looks washed out. Anyway, stick with these fast IPS panels if youre worried about OLED burn-in or high costs. gl! 👍
