Man I am so hyped for the 50 series launch like you wouldnt believe. Ive been saving up my paychecks from my part-time job here in Manchester for like six months now just to finally move on from my crusty old GTX 1650. Im pretty set on getting the RTX 5060 when it drops because I mostly play at 1080p anyway and I dont really need 4k or anything crazy. My monitor is 165Hz so I really want to actually hit those high frames for once.
So I was thinking about what CPU to pair it with and my logic was originally just to grab a Ryzen 5 7600 because its cheap and on the AM5 platform which is great for future upgrades. But then I started reading some threads and people are saying that since the 50 series might have some wild frame gen tech it might actually put more load on the CPU than we think? Or maybe the 1080p resolution makes the bottleneck way worse because the GPU is so fast it just waits on the processor. I saw a few guys saying the i5-13600K is better for mid-range builds but then I saw all that stuff about the Intel stability issues lately and now Im kinda scared to go that route even though the performance looks solid.
I found one video saying that even for a 60-class card you should go for a 7800X3D if youre at 1080p to avoid any stutters but thats like way out of my budget. Im trying to keep the CPU under 250 or 300 pounds tops because I still need to buy DDR5 ram and a new motherboard. If I go with the 7600 will I be leaving a ton of performance on the table? Or should I wait and see if there is a 9600X or something that fits better? Its just confusing because some people say the 5060 wont be that much faster than a 4060 Ti but others are saying the architecture jump is huge. I just want something that wont choke when I try to run Cyberpunk with some of those fancy ray tracing features... what do you guys think is the actual sweet spot for this combo?
To add to the point above: I definitely agree that staying on the AM5 platform is your smartest move. I remember building my first rig and cheaping out on the socket... I had to replace everything just two years later when I wanted a faster chip. It was such a waste of money and a total headache. If you are worried about 1080p bottlenecks, keep these things in mind:
Regarding what #1 said about the 7600, Intel Core i5-13600K 14-Core 3.5GHz works great for high fps while AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core 3.8GHz is a decent efficient option. TL;DR: speed vs efficiency.
