honestly getting a headache looking at all these x870e boards for my 9850X3D build. i gotta get this thing built by friday for a streaming marathon but i cant decide. torn between the asus rog strix x870e-e and the msi tomahawk. the asus looks sick but its so pricey... is the msi actually reliable though? i had one die on me years ago so im paranoid.
the asus seems safer but my wallet is crying. which one handles the x3d chips better without cooking the vrms? i dont want to deal with returns...
Re: "> is the msi actually reliable though?" Tbh MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX handles the x3d perfectly.
Yo! Saw this and had to jump in because saving cash while getting top performance is basically my hobby!! Are you planning on using all four M.2 slots for Gen 5 drives, or just a mix of Gen 4 and Gen 5? That makes a massive difference for which board actually makes sense for your setup! If you want that Asus vibe without the insane price tag of the E-E, you should seriously check out the ASUS ROG Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi. It is way more affordable and still has the BIOS you are comfortable with! Another amazing option that wont break the bank is the Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7. Its super solid and usually hits that sweet spot for price and features without the luxury tax. Honestly the VRMs on these newer boards are so overbuilt anyway that the 9850X3D wont even break a sweat. TL;DR: Dont overspend on the ROG Strix X870E-E if you dont need the extreme features. Go for the Strix-F or Aorus Elite and use the extra cash for more storage!
> is the msi actually reliable though? I was worried too but Ive used MSI for years and Im totally satisfied. Theyve always stayed cool and stable, so honestly just go with MSI and youll be fine.
