Which CPU avoids bottlenecking the new RTX 5080?

Ive been building custom loops for a decade but this 50 series jump is weird. Im grabbing a 5080 for my 4k rig next month and really dont wanna deal with a massive bottleneck after dropping all that cash. Is the 7800X3D still the king for this or do I need to wait for something else?

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Desktop Processor! It is still a total beast for gaming and that massive 3D V-Cache is basically magic for keeping frame times smooth. Since you are doing a custom loop, heat wont be an issue anyway, but the efficiency is just incredible compared to anything else out there. If you want a more "all-arounder" and dont mind the massive power draw, the Intel Core i9-14900K 24-Core 32-Thread Desktop Processor is still a fantastic alternative. It wins on productivity and clocks super high, tho it honestly feels like overkill for just gaming at 4K where the GPU does the heavy lifting. Personally, I would stick with the X3D because it is just so dominant in games. If you really wanna wait, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor is the only thing that might top it soon. Just grab the 7800X3D now, it's amazing and you wont regret it!

Regarding what #1 said about "You absolutely cannot go wrong with the AMD...", I would suggest being a bit cautious. At 4K, the CPU choice is way less critical than you think since the GPU does the heavy lifting.

  • Look at the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core 5.4GHz Desktop Processor instead.
  • Spend the extra cash on your loop, like a Corsair Hydro X Series XR5 360mm Radiator. Honestly, dont pay the premium for frames you wont even see.
