so my laptop is basically crawling at this point and it takes like ten minutes just to open chrome which is making me lose my mind because i have this huge research paper due next friday for my psych class and i literally cant work like this. i asked my cousin who is good with computers and he just said get an ssd and hung up which was not helpful at all because i have no idea what that even means or where to start looking. i went on amazon and searched for it and now im just more confused than when i started because there are so many different shapes and sizes and some are called nvme and some are sata and i dont know if my laptop even has the right slot for those?
i have this silver dell inspiron i bought back in 2021 i think but i lost the manual years ago so i dont know the exact model number or anything. i only have about 90 bucks to spend on this and i really need it to arrive like tomorrow or the next day so i can actually finish my work on time. i live in a small apartment in chicago and dont have any tools either so i hope i dont need a soldering iron or something crazy like that. i’m super sorry if this is a really dumb question but i’m just really stressed and don’t want to waste my money on something that wont even fit or might blow up my computer or something.
is there like one specific brand or type of ssd that just works in basically every laptop no matter what? i just want the best all-around one that isnt going to fail on me in a month and will actually make my computer fast again...

I actually had issues with them running way too hot in thin laptops. Unfortunately, heat kills drives fast... if you want something reliable, the Western Digital WD Blue SN580 1TB NVMe SSD is a safer bet. Tip: you'll need a tiny PH0 screwdriver to open that Dell, so dont forget to grab one.

Dude, I totally feel your pain! My old rig used to take ten minutes just to boot and it was infuriating... then I discovered SSDs and it was a total game changer. For a 2021 Dell Inspiron, you definitely want an NVMe drive. The Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 is my top pick because it is seriously amazing and fits your budget! Heres the deal with this thing:
- It uses the M.2 slot which is standard now.
- Its way more durable than those old spinning drives.
- Installation is basically just one screw, no soldering required! Last year I put one in my sisters laptop and the speed boost was just insane. It will totally save your psych paper! Since youre in Chicago, you can probably get it tomorrow. Just grab a tiny screwdriver so you can open the case.
