Hey everyone! I’m finally putting together my Ryzen 9 5900X build and want to make sure I’m not bottlenecking this beast with a slow drive. Since the 5900X and my X570 board support PCIe Gen 4, I definitely want to take advantage of those faster speeds for 4K video editing and heavy multitasking. I’ve been eyeing the Samsung 990 Pro and the WD Black SN850X, but I’m torn on which one offers the best long-term reliability for a primary boot drive. Are there other Gen 4 options I should be looking at for a 2TB setup? What NVMe would you recommend to get the most out of this specific CPU?

For your situation, WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD is the speed king, but Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB Internal SSD is way better for heavy editing endurance. Both rock tho!!

Quick question—before I give my two cents, how many GBs of raw footage are u actually writing to the drive on a daily basis? I ask because if this is for pro-level 4K work, u REALLY gotta prioritize endurance (TBW) over just the flashy peak speeds that brands love to advertise.
In my experience, reliability is all about how much punishment the drive can take before it wears out. Since u mentioned safety and long-term use, I’d suggest looking at the SABRENT 2TB Rocket 4 Plus NVMe SSD. I've used Sabrent drives for years and they’re basically tanks for heavy multitasking. Another solid, practical option is the Teamgroup T-Force Cardea A440 Pro 2TB SSD—it’s honestly a beast for the price and has great thermal management, which is huge for keeping things stable during long exports.
