Im honestly so done with this bottleneck. Spent way too much on an i9 build for my 4K gaming just to have games stuttering while loading. My current drive is trash and im ready to toss it. Got a $250 budget for today, whats the absolute fastest nvme ssd i can get right now?

In my experience, if you're hitting bottlenecks on an i9 rig, you need a drive that handles heavy random reads. I've tried many over the years and honestly the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe is the one to beat for consistency.

  • 7450 MB/s sequential reads
  • Optimized for high-end gaming
  • Solid reliability Its basically the best way to spend that 250 budget without overthinking it.

  • I really have to chime in here because if you are running a high-end i9 setup, you likely have access to PCIe 5.0 bandwidth! If your motherboard supports it, the absolute king of storage right now is the Crucial T705 2TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD. This thing is a total beast! You are looking at sequential reads up to 14,500 MB/s which makes even the best PCIe 4.0 drives look slow. It is honestly life-changing for 4K asset streaming and heavy multitasking. I have to emphasize safety and thermal management though. These ultra-fast Gen 5 drives generate an incredible amount of heat during heavy gaming sessions. If you dont have active cooling or a massive thermal guard, the drive will throttle and your stutters might actually come back. Always ensure you use the beefy heatsink that came with your board or buy the version that includes one! Another fantastic professional-grade choice is the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G 2TB Advanced Gaming NVMe. It is specifically engineered for DirectStorage which is huge for eliminating those annoying loading hitches in open-world titles. Sabrent has a stellar reputation for long-term reliability and their firmware support is top tier. Honestly, you cant go wrong with either, but that T705 is the true speed king for an i9 build!

Regarding what #1 said about "In my experience, if you're hitting bottlenecks on..." - i definitely agree. The Samsung is solid, but the WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe SSD is a beast too. It's usually cheaper and feels just as fast for 4K gaming. Another one is the SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 which runs way cooler than most high-end drives. TL;DR: WD is the best value, Hynix for better temps.
