my new i9 build is literally crawling and I spent way too much on it for my freelance video editing gig. current drive keeps stuttering during 4k exports and im so stressed because I have a big deadline Friday and only $200 left. what ssd actually plays nice with these chips and wont throttle?

Honestly, I had issues with cheaper DRAMless drives before and they were not as good as expected for video work. The stuttering is likely cache exhaustion. For under $200, just grab the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. It handles sustained 4k writes way better than the mid-range stuff I tried last year. It wont throttle as hard when you're hitting those deadlines.

Building on the earlier suggestion, everyone is right that your cache is just giving up! I once lost a whole weekend when a cheap drive literally fried during a 4k export... total nightmare! Now I only trust the Seagate FireCuda 530 2TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 because the endurance is amazing and it feels so safe. Quick tip: grab the heatsink version so it wont throttle when it gets hot!

Oh man, I totally feel the deadline stress! If youre on a budget but need that i9 to actually fly, you gotta check these out! Theyve been amazing for my workflow.

TL;DR: The WD Black SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD offers excellent sustained performance. Like someone mentioned, 4k exports are taxing on the cache. I suggest checking the SSD tier list on the LTT forums to verify reliability. This WD model is roughly $160 and has better thermal management than most. Its a very safe, methodical choice for professional work so you wont deal with throttling issues again.
