ive been staring at my old screen for hours and its literally giving me a headache so i need to upgrade like yesterday. im in nyc and my budget is strictly under 600 bucks but i am totally lost.
i saw people hyping up the dell ultrasharp series for productivity but then gaming forums say the lg 27gp950 is the only way to go and now im just anxious ill buy something that doesnt even work right with my setup. i use an older pc but might get a mac mini soon so it has to be compatible with basically anything. is there a 4k monitor that actually works for any desktop model without constant flickering or issues?
Man, i feel you on the headaches. Old monitors are the worst for eye strain. Honestly, i was pretty disappointed when i tried the Dell UltraSharp U2723QE 27-inch 4K USB-C Hub Monitor because even tho everyone raves about it, i had some weird flickering issues when switching between my old desktop and my macbook. It felt kinda overpriced for the frustration it gave me. Heres my take on the options you probably saw:
Checking in a day late but i feel your pain. Honestly spent way too much time testing monitors because i hate flickering and driver issues. Stayed away from the gaming stuff since high refresh rates can be a headache on older hardware. Finally settled on the ASUS ProArt PA279CV 27-inch 4K UHD Monitor and i have zero complaints. It is super stable. Works with an old windows tower and a macbook and it switches inputs perfectly. Color accuracy is great right out of the box too which helps with the eye strain. It usually goes for about $400 to $450 so youll have money left over. TL;DR: Buy the ASUS ProArt. It is the safest bet for under 600 bucks and works perfectly with both PC and Mac without any flickering nonsense.
Caught this thread today and honestly been super happy with my LG 27UP850N-W 27-inch 4K UHD VESA HDR400. It was way under budget and works like a charm with both my old tower and the mac mini i borrowed. No flicker issues at all. Quick tip tho... just make sure you use a decent high-speed cable because the pack-ins are usually junk and cause most connection headaches anyway.
