my main keyboard just quit on me and i have a deadline on monday so im kinda panicking right now. i was looking at the Keychron V series since everyone loves them but then i read some stuff about wireless lag and weird firmware issues with certain motherboards so i dont know if its worth the risk. then i looked at the SteelSeries Apex but people say the software is bloatware garbage. i just need a solid mechanical board that works with literally any desktop setup i throw it at.
is there something reliable that just works without a bunch of drama?...
Stumbled on this discussion... quick question tho, are you looking for a specific switch feel? Like, do you need silent keys for meetings or do you prefer that tactile bump for your data entry? I'd suggest looking at the Ducky One 3 Full Size Hot-Swappable Mechanical Keyboard since it is basically bulletproof, tho the lack of software might be a turnoff. Be careful with those big gaming brands, their software is usually a nightmare. The Glorious GMMK Full Size Hot-Swap Keyboard is another solid, no-nonsense pick that wont let you down.
Just saw this and had to jump in because I was in the same boat last month! You seriously need to look at the MonsGeek MG108W Full Size Mechanical Keyboard Hot-swap right now. It is absolutely fantastic and fits way under your $140 limit, which is a total win. I use mine for heavy data entry and the build quality is honestly shocking for the price... it feels so heavy and sturdy on the desk. No lag issues at all and it just works immediately when you plug it in or use the 2.4ghz dongle. If that one is out of stock, another amazing choice is the Royal Kludge RK98 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard Hot Swappable. It has a slightly tighter layout but still keeps the numpad which is essential for spreadsheets. I love it because it is super budget-friendly but still feels like a premium piece of gear and is super easy to mod. Quick tip for a beginner: if the keys feel a bit scratchy at first, just grab a tiny bit of Krytox GPL 205G0 Switch Lubricant and do the stabilizers. It makes the spacebar sound like butter! Also, since you need it fast for that Monday deadline, Amazon usually has these for overnight shipping in the US. I love how easy it is to swap switches if you ever get bored of the feel later on. It is such a solid choice and way better than those bloated gaming brands! You wont regret getting either of these, seriously love the typing experience on this thing! Let me know if you need help picking out switches because that is where it gets really fun!
> i just need a solid mechanical board that works with literally any desktop setup i throw it at. Honestly i get the worry about wireless lag. I went with the Keychron V6 Wired Full Size Hot-swap Keyboard for my home office and im super satisfied. Since its wired you wont deal with firmware or connection drama. It feels super solid and the hot-swap switches are a lifesaver if you want a different feel later. No bloatware either cuz it uses web-based VIA for config. It just works.
