Best budget GPU for a compact mini-ITX gaming build?

Hey everyone! I’m finally putting together my first mini-ITX gaming rig, but I’m really struggling to find a solid budget GPU that actually fits. My case is pretty cramped, so I’m looking for something under 200mm in length to ensure there's enough room for airflow. I’m mainly targeting 1080p gaming for titles like Apex Legends and Cyberpunk 2077, but I’m trying to keep the card under $300. I've been eyeing the RTX 4060 or maybe an RX 7600, but I'm worried about thermals in such a small space. Does anyone have experience with specific small-form-factor models that stay cool? What’s the best value-for-money mini GPU you’d recommend right now?

Quick question - what case are you using? I once crammed a budget card into a tiny build and unfortunately it throttled like crazy... realy noisy. Anyway, the PNY GeForce RTX 4060 8GB VERTO Solo Fan is super short at 157mm but gets hot. The ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 V2 8GB GDDR6 is much better for thermals, but it's 202mm so it might not fit? Lmk!

the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6 Solo is $290 and 163mm. i use it and it stays cool, or the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 AERO ITX 8G OC fits easily too.

Yo, I'd suggest:
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Windforce OC 8G (192mm): Better cooling.
Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7600 8GB GDDR6 (190mm): Better value.
Honestly, Gigabytes safer for temps. Thoughts?

Jumping in here before you buy anything. Most people are steering you toward the 4060 or the 6600 for a reason... they're the best balance for small cases right now. Just be careful with those ultra-short single fan cards though. I've owned a few over the years and they can get pretty noisy once they've been running for a few months and things get dusty. If you're really trying to stretch your dollar, keep an eye on the PowerColor Fighter AMD Radeon RX 6600 8GB GDDR6. It is usually under $200 and sits right at 190mm, which is a safer bet for your 200mm limit than some of the bigger dual-fan cards. Another one that flies under the radar is the Inno3D GeForce RTX 4060 Compact 8GB. Its simple and gets the job done without the extra price tag some other brands tack on. Just make sure to measure your case depth too... sometimes the power cables hit the side panel in these tiny builds and you wont be able to close it. Good luck with the build!

Good to know!

tbh if you want technical efficiency, the ASRock Radeon RX 6600 Challenger ITX 8GB is a sleeper pick. Its only 179mm long and since the TDP is lower than the newer 7000 series or even some 4060s, you dont get as much thermal saturation in the copper heat pipes. I always look at the fin density on these small shrouds because if the air cant actually escape the fins, your fan just ends up recirculating hot air back into the case. Actually, talking about airflow reminds me of this massive project I did last summer where I tried to convert an old vintage radio into a silent server node. I spent weeks measuring static pressure levels for these tiny 40mm fans and ended up building a custom wind tunnel out of cardboard just to test the intake... ngl it was a total disaster and looked like a science fair project gone wrong. My cat eventually sat on the wind tunnel and crushed it anyway. Anyway, that ASRock card is a solid shout for keeping things cool on a budget, but yeah just watch your case width too.

Not to disagree with the 4060 suggestions, but I'd actually suggest a different approach. Basically, heat is a major safety concern in tiny builds and can literally damage your components. Honestly, prioritize a card with the lowest TDP. I've been super satisfied with my low-power setup cuz it stays safe and reliable without overheating everything else. Better safe than sorry, you know? 👍
