Best budget GPU for Ryzen 7 9700X?

I’ve just pulled the trigger on a Ryzen 7 9700X for my new build, and I'm super excited about the performance of this chip. However, after splurging on the CPU and a solid AM5 motherboard, my budget for the graphics card has ended up a bit tighter than I initially planned. I’m looking for a GPU that won't bottleneck this processor too heavily but also won't break the bank.

I primarily play at 1440p and would love to hit high settings in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Starfield without having to rely entirely on frame gen. My remaining budget is strictly around $350–$450. I’ve been looking at the RX 7800 XT as a potential candidate, but I’m also wondering if snagging a deal on a previous-gen RTX 30-series card or a 4060 Ti would be a smarter move for the long run. I’m a bit torn between getting more VRAM or better ray tracing features.

Has anyone else paired the 9700X with a mid-range card yet? Which GPU do you think offers the best value-to-performance ratio for this specific setup without leaving too much CPU power on the table?

ngl I've been in this exact spot before where the CPU eats the whole budget lol. Check out the "GPU Hierarchy" on Tom's Hardware... it's a great resource for comparing raw FPS. Honestly, for $350-$450, you should look at the ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB. It's basically the sweet spot for 1440p cuz of that extra VRAM. If you're scared of AMD tho, maybe hunt for a used EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 10GB? Just be careful with power draw on older cards!!!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option besides that 4060 Ti. Honestly, 8GB of VRAM is kinda risky for 1440p Cyberpunk these days, right?? Since you're on a strict budget after that 9700X, I'd actually suggest looking at the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE.

I know it's slightly over $500 usually, but if you can't swing that, the XFX Speedster QICK319 Radeon RX 7800 XT is basically the sweet spot for $480-490.

* Better VRAM (16GB) for future-proofing
* Stronger raw 1440p performance
* Cheaper than high-end Nvidia cards

I mean, ray tracing is cool but raw FPS matters more at this price point imo!

Ok so before deciding, are you planning to use ray tracing heavily in games like Cyberpunk, or is raw FPS and having extra VRAM ur main priority for 1440p gaming?

Honestly, at 1440p, you gotta prioritize VRAM safety so your card doesnt choke in a year. Since you mentioned safety and reliability, I really recommend the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB. I know others mentioned it, but it's the SAFEST bet for longevity cuz of that 16GB buffer. If you can find a Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT, it runs super cool and quiet. I've been happy with mine and honestly, it keeps that 9700X fed well enough without breaking the bank. 👍
