my old 1660 super literally just died in the middle of a render and i have a major deadline for a client next Thursday so im panicking slightly. i need a replacement fast but cant spend more than $280 really. im torn between the rtx 3060 12gb because i heard the extra vram helps with 4k or maybe the rx 6600 since its way cheaper, but mostly leaning towards the nvidia card since i use premiere and after effects mostly. or is the arc a750 worth the risk for quicksync? my case is a bit tight on space too. which one is actually gonna handle smooth playback without me wanting to throw my monitor out the window...

Seriously, just grab the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6! That 12GB VRAM is absolutely legendary for 4K timelines and makes Premiere fly. Youll love the massive upgrade from your old card!

I saw your post and man, that timing is rough with a deadline. Since you need something reliable right now, I would suggest being extra careful with any card that might have driver quirks. Reliability is everything when a client is waiting for a render. Since your case space is an issue, you might want to consider:

  • ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 8GB OC Edition: This is a great choice for small builds because of the compact dual-fan design. It is very power efficient, so it wont cook your other components in a cramped setup. You lose some VRAM compared to the older 3060, but the newer architecture and AV1 support are nice for future-proofing your exports. Just be sure your projects arent so massive that 8GB becomes a bottleneck.
  • PNY GeForce RTX 4060 8GB XLR8 Gaming Verto RGB Single Fan: If your case is seriously tiny, this single-fan model is a lifesaver. It fits almost anywhere. Its a bit louder under load, but it gets the job done for Premiere.
  • Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT 8GB: Its a great value card, but honestly, I would suggest sticking with Nvidia for your specific workflow. Premiere and After Effects just play way nicer with CUDA cores, and you might run into playback issues with AMD drivers on certain effects. I would personally go with the ASUS 4060 if you can find it for around $290. Its less likely to give you headaches right before Thursday. If you run into any issues during the install, just let me know, happy to help you troubleshoot.

Jumping in, I actually tried the Intel Arc A750 8GB GDDR6 for a side project recently. QuickSync is genuinely amazing for scrub speed, and it fits most smaller builds. Just double check your motherboard has ReSize BAR support or youll regret it. If youre worried about case space, the MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12GB OC is short enough to fit most mini cases.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
