So I am finally looking to replace my legendary 1080 Ti because it finally started artifacting on me last week which is honestly a tragedy but it had a good run. I have been building PCs since the early 2000s but the current GPU market is just... weird. I am trying to hit a solid 240Hz at 1440p for Apex and the new Warzone but I am torn on what actually makes sense right now.
My logic was originally just to grab a 4070 Ti Super because of the DLSS 3 stuff but then I started looking at the 7900 XT and the raw rasterization is tempting for the price especially since I dont care about ray tracing in competitive shooters. But then I saw some benchmarks where the 1% lows on the Nvidia cards were way more stable for high refresh stuff and now I am second guessing everything. I have about $850 to spend and I am buying in the US so I have access to Micro Center but I am stuck on if the extra VRAM on the AMD side actually matters for 1440p yet or if I am just overthinking the frame stability thing. Should I just bite the bullet on the 4080 Super if I can find a deal or is that totally overkill for just competitive settings? I really just want the smoothest experience without paying for features I wont use...
@Reply 1 - good point! What PSU are you using? Im super satisfied with the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Eagle OC 16GB since its clock speeds and cooling are top notch for the price.
Quick reply while I have a sec. I was in your shoes a few months back when I was picking parts for my first real high-end build. Honestly, I was super worried about things crashing or getting too hot, so I played it safe. I ended up with the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB Gaming X Slim and I have zero complaints so far. It runs really cool and quiet which makes me feel a lot better about the longevity... didnt want to risk a hot card. I mostly play Apex too and it's been incredibly stable at 1440p. I know the extra VRAM on AMD sounds nice, but for me, having reliable drivers and no stuttering was way more important. If you can find a PNY GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB Verto OC on sale it might be cool, but the 4070 Ti Super is honestly plenty and feels safer for the budget.
In my experience, those Nvidia 1% lows are way more consistent for high refresh gaming. If youre pushing 240Hz in Warzone, you really dont want micro-stutters. Tbh 16GB is plenty for 1440p right now.
