Best GPU for competitive gaming in Valorant and CS2?

Hey everyone! I’m looking to upgrade my rig specifically to push high refresh rates in Valorant and CS2. I’m currently rocking an older card that struggles to keep up during intense utility usage and smokes, which is killing my consistency. Since these games are so CPU-bound, I’m curious which GPU provides the best value for hitting a stable 360+ FPS without overkill. I’ve been looking at the RTX 4060 Ti and the RX 7700 XT, but I'm worried about input lag and 1% lows. Budget is around $400-$500. Should I prioritize NVIDIA for Reflex, or is AMD’s raw performance better for these titles? What are you guys using to stay competitive?

I went through this last year. Honestly, I was in the exact same spot trying to figure out if NVIDIA Reflex was actually worth the "green team" tax for CS2 and Valorant. I ended up swapping out my old GTX 1070 for an ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB GDDR6 because I was obsessed with getting those 1% lows stable for my 360Hz panel.

So basically, here's the technical breakdown of why I went that route after testing both:

1. Input Latency: NVIDIA Reflex is lowkey a game changer. It bypasses the render queue, which basically keeps the GPU and CPU in perfect sync. In CS2, where utility like smokes can cause frame time spikes, Reflex helps keep the click-to-photon latency super low even if the FPS dips slightly.
2. Architecture: While the PowerColor Fighter AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB GDDR6 has more raw VRAM and better bus width, these eSports titles don't really care about that. They're all about high clock speeds and architectural efficiency at 1080p.
3. Driver Overhead: NVIDIA generally has lower CPU overhead in DX11/DX12 eSports titles, which helps if your CPU is already working overtime to push 400+ FPS.

Tbh, I actually tried an AMD card first, but I noticed the frame pacing felt a bit "floaty" compared to the 4060 Ti. It might've just been my specific setup tho... anyway, I've been hitting a rock solid 400+ FPS now and the 1% lows stay well above 300 even when there's five smokes and three mollies on screen. If your focused on competitive edge, the NVIDIA tech suite is hard to beat for these specific games. gl!

Honestly, for competitive Valorant and CS2, I'd highkey pick the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB GDDR6 for the Reflex tech, or the Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB GDDR6 if u want raw power. Both are safe bets under $500!

ugh i am literally dealing with this exact same headache right now and it is driving me up the wall... i have been trying to stabilize my 1% lows in cs2 for months and nothing seems to stick. i spent way too much time staring at frame time graphs and comparing the technical specs of different cards like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super but honestly i still feel just as lost as when i started. its so tilting when you think you have a solid rig but then a single smoke grenade drops your fps to 200 and ruins the whole feel of the 360hz panel... i really wish there was a clear consensus on this already because it feels like i am just chasing ghosts at this point.

Honestly, just grab a mid-range AMD card for the raw performance. The 7700 XT basically kills it at 1440p and easily hits 360+ FPS in those titles without breaking ur bank.

For your situation, I gotta warn you: don't overlook the power supply if you're chasing those 1% lows. People focus so much on the GPU, but unstable power delivery can tank your frame times in CS2.

* Check your PSU tier; cheap units cause micro-stutters
* Stick to NVIDIA for these specific titles—Reflex is legit for input lag
* Prioritize 12GB+ VRAM just to stay safe for future updates

I've seen so many rigs struggle cuz they cheaped out on the basics. Honestly, just make sure your cooling is solid too, cuz thermal throttling will kill your consistency faster than a bad card. gl!

Bookmarked, thanks!

Hey!! Honestly, I totally get the struggle with those smokes killing your frames, it is literally the WORST feeling when you're trying to clutch... i've been there so many times lol.

For your budget, I think the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB GDDR6 is actually a solid pick cuz of NVIDIA Reflex. In my experience, that tech makes everything feel soooo snappy and low-latency in Valorant! But if you want the absolute BEST bang for your buck for raw power, the Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB is AMAZING. It usually has more VRAM which helps with those 1% lows you're worried about, right?

I’m still kinda new to tweaking all the deep settings, but basically, I LOVE how much smoother my game felt after upgrading. If you can find the MSI Ventus GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6X on sale closer to $500, that would be the dream! What CPU are you pairing it with tho? cuz that matters a TON for 360fps! peace 👍

> I’m currently rocking an older card that struggles to keep up during intense utility usage and smokes, which is killing my consistency. ^ This. Also, I feel your pain with those smokes in CS2. It is honestly the most tilting thing when the game just hitches for a split second during a site take. I have died so many times because my 1% lows dipped right as I peeked through utility... it makes it impossible to build any real muscle memory. It just feels like the hardware is fighting against you half the time. Since you are looking for actual value, be careful with the lower VRAM cards in that price range. I would suggest looking at the XFX Speedster QICK 319 Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB because it usually sits under $500 and the raw horsepower helps keep those frame times stable when the screen gets messy. If you really want to stay with NVIDIA for Reflex, maybe check out the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Gaming OC 16GB. The 8GB version might struggle with consistency in the long run even if it is okay right now. Just make sure you have a decent PSU for the AMD card since it pulls more juice than the 4060 Ti.
