Hey everyone! I’m planning a new build around the upcoming Ryzen 7 9850X3D and I'm a bit stuck on the GPU choice. Since this CPU is expected to be a gaming beast, I want to make sure I’m not bottlenecking it at 1440p. I’m mainly playing fast-paced shooters like Warzone but also want to enjoy titles like Cyberpunk 2077 with high ray tracing settings. I’m debating between picking up an RTX 4080 Super now or waiting for the next-gen flagship releases. My goal is to stay locked at 165Hz to match my monitor. Do you think a 4070 Ti Super is enough for this resolution, or should I go higher to really leverage that 3D V-Cache?

Curious about one thing: are you planning to use DLSS Frame Gen for those Cyberpunk sessions? I ask cuz I remember when I first built my rig with the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 Super, I thought it'd CRUSH everything raw, but Ray Tracing Overdrive mode is just a different beast entirely lol.

Before I give full advice, it basically comes down to your tolerance for settings vs. native resolution. Like, a ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB is honestly a 1440p champ for Warzone, but if you want that 165Hz locked in Cyberpunk with all the bells and whistles, you're gonna be leaning heavily on tech like DLSS. Are you okay with using upscaling, or are you a "native resolution or bust" kinda person? Also, what's ur budget looking like for the GPU alone??

yo! honestly, i'd go for the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 Super if you want that 165Hz locked at 1440p. i'm using one now and it's basically amazing for Warzone, and it handles Cyberpunk with ray tracing like a beast! the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB is okay, but it might struggle to hit 165fps in heavy titles without DLSS. if you can wait for next-gen stuff, maybe do that? but yeah, 4080 Super is the sweet spot for that CPU!! gl!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before jumping on the 4080 wagon... Saw this earlier but just now responding! Honestly, if you're building around a beast like the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, you gotta think about safety and power stability first. Pushing high frame rates in Cyberpunk puts a massive strain on the 12VHPWR connector, so I'd actually suggest a different approach by focusing on a card with a rock-solid VRM and cooling setup.

Quick tips:
- Prioritize a card with an overbuilt cooling solution to prevent thermal throttling during those long Warzone sessions.
- Get an ATX 3.0 PSU to ensure you're meeting the latest safety standards for power delivery.

I've seen too many high-end rigs stutter cuz the GPU was pulling inconsistent power. I'd personally look at the MSI GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16G EXPERT or the Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB if you don't mind switching teams. The Nitro+ has incredible build quality and safety features, tho the MSI card is basically a tank for RT. Both are safer bets for a flagship CPU than a standard Ti Super imo!! gl!

Regarding what #4 said about "Respectfully, I'd consider another option before jumping on..." - i actually think most people overcomplicate the power and VRM stuff nowadays. I've been using a different setup and i'm honestly super satisfied with the performance i'm getting without overspending. If you want that 165Hz locked at 1440p but want to look at a different brand for better value, i'd look at these:

  • ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB - this thing is a beast for raw frames in Warzone and actually beats the 4080 Super in plenty of non-RT titles.
  • MSI Gaming X Slim GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB - if you really want NVIDIA features but need a card that actually fits in most cases and stays cool without the premium tax. I dont really get the anxiety over the connectors as long as you plug them in right. Tbh, the 7900 XTX feels like the better buy for a 9850X3D build if you want to max out that high refresh rate monitor. It just works well and i havent had a single complaint so far. Cyberpunk still looks great even if you arent using the highest ray tracing settings available.

Sooo, i'm kind of a beginner at this stuff but i feel u on the budget anxiety lol. In my experience, choosing between these is basically a balancing act. If youre worried about cost, the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super Gaming OC 16G is a decent option and it saves you like a couple hundred bucks compared to the flagship stuff. But honestly... if youre dropping cash on a beastly CPU like the 9850X3D, you might feel like you bottlenecked yourself later if you dont go higher??

I remember when i built my first rig, i went for a cheaper GPU and literally regretted it two months later when a big game came out and i couldnt hit my monitors refresh rate... it sucked!! For Warzone you'll be fine with the 4070 Ti Super but Cyberpunk with all the ray tracing is a whole different beast. If you really wanna hit 165Hz locked, the PNY GeForce RTX 4080 Super 16GB Verto Overclocked Triple Fan is probably the safer bet, even tho it's pricier.

But if i were you, i'd actually think about waiting?? Next gen is right around the corner and it would be so annoying to buy a 4080 now and then see the new ones come out for the same price. It depends on your needs tho!! If you need it now, just go for the 4080 Super so you dont have that "what if" feeling later. GL with the build!!!

Building on the earlier suggestion, I've been catching up on this thread and it's honestly a bit of a bummer to see where the market is right now. Unfortunately, I've had issues with some of the more popular cards lately where the build quality just wasn't as good as expected for the price. As someone who builds everything from scratch, it's super annoying when you spend a weekend cable managing only to have the fans start rattling or the power delivery feel unstable. Basically, the thread is split between raw power and value. If you're really going for that Ryzen 7 9850X3D and want to avoid the headaches I've been having, I'd say just go with MSI. You can't really go wrong with their thermal designs lately compared to some of the other brands that have been failing me. Their cooling solutions usually hold up way better than the competition when you're pushing frames in Cyberpunk. Just get any high-end Nvidia card from them and call it a day, honestly... it won't let you down as much as some of these other cards I've tried.
