Best workstation GPU for Ryzen 9 9950X?

Hey everyone! I’m finally putting together a new build centered around the Ryzen 9 9950X, and I’m a bit torn on which GPU would best complement this 16-core beast for a professional workflow. I primarily do heavy 3D rendering in Octane and Redshift, along with some complex 4K video editing in Premiere Pro. Since the 9950X is such a powerhouse, I want to make sure I don't create a bottleneck on the GPU side, especially when it comes to VRAM capacity for large scenes.

I’ve been looking at the RTX 4090 because of that 24GB frame buffer, but I’m also wondering if a professional-grade RTX 6000 Ada is worth the massive price jump for the driver stability and extra memory. I’m also curious if anyone has experience running multiple GPUs with this specific CPU and if there are any PCIe lane limitations I should be worried about on the X870E platform. Budget is flexible, but I want to get the best value for a high-end workstation. For those of you already testing the 9000 series, what GPU are you pairing with it to get the most out of your productivity tasks?

Honestly, for Octane and Redshift, just grab the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB. I've been using one for a while and that 24GB VRAM is basically the sweet spot for 90% of complex scenes. The NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation 48GB is cool if ur doing insane Hollywood-level sims, but it's sooo expensive for what u get. Just be careful with X870E—since it's mainstream, dual-GPU setups will split ur lanes to x8/x8, so make sure ur PSU can handle the spikes. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, for the price of one NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation 48GB, you could almost build two whole systems. If you're looking for value, I'd just stick with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB. I'm super happy with mine and it handles 4K video like a dream. Plus, if you find a deal on a used NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 24GB, that's a killer budget way to get that same VRAM for way less cash! gl!

Totally agree with the above! Just stick with consumer cards from NVIDIA, but honestly, make sure ur power supply can handle it safely. Reliability is key when ur pushing that 9950X hard...

For your situation, I'd suggest looking at the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB vs the NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation 32GB instead. The 4090 is way faster for raw rendering speed in Redshift, but the X870E platform only has 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes from the 9950X, so dual-GPU setups will drop to x8/x8 speeds. Its technically fine for rendering, but that extra VRAM on the 5000 Ada is HUGE for massive 3D scenes... honestly, it just depends on if your projects hit that 24GB limit. GL!

Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
