Hey everyone! With the RTX 5080 on the horizon, I'm starting to map out my build upgrade. I'm a bit nervous about the 12VHPWR connector after all the melting drama we saw with the 40-series. I'm currently using a Corsair RM1000x, and the stock cables are just so stiff that it's hard to get a clean bend without hitting the side panel of my case. I’ve looked at CableMod and some of the newer 12V-2x6 options, but I’m not sure what’s considered the 'safest' or most reliable choice for this upcoming gen. Are there specific brands or 90-degree cables you guys trust for these high-power cards?

Yo! Honestly, I feel u on the 12VHPWR anxiety. When I first got my 4090, I was literally losing sleep over that connector drama lol. I’m also rocking a Corsair RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply, and yeah, those stock cables are basically stiff iron bars. I actually ended up bending mine so hard against the side panel that I thought I’d snap the header... NOT a good vibe.
So here is the play for ur 5080 upgrade: since ur already on the Corsair ecosystem, the *safest* and most cost-effective move is to grab the official Corsair Premium 600W PCIe 5.0 / Gen 5 12VHPWR Power Cable. It's wayyy more flexible cuz it’s individual paracord sleeving, and it only costs like $20-25. It’s amazing because it plugs directly into two 8-pin ports on ur PSU, so u dont have to deal with those bulky, ugly adapters!!
If ur case is still too tight tho, seriously check out the CableMod Basics 12VHPWR 90 Degree StealthSense PCI-e Cable for Corsair. They fixed the issues from the old adapters by making a dedicated 90-degree *cable* instead. It looks super clean and follows the new 12V-2x6 standard specs which are basically designed to be "melt-proof" by shortening the sensing pins. I've been using one for months and it’s fantastic. Lesson learned: dont mess with separate adapters if u can help it, just get a dedicated high-quality cable and make sure it *clicks* in. GL with the 5080 build!! 👍

+1 to what was said earlier! In my experience, I've tried many fancy cables over the years but you dont always need to pay that "premium" tax. Honestly, I think the EZDIY-FAB 12VHPWR 90 Degree 12+4 Pin Male to Female Adapter is basically a solid budget choice for tight cases. Quick tip: just make sure it clicks in fully because if its loose, it's game over for that 5080!

Honestly, for something as beefy as a 5080, you really need to look at the actual wire gauge. I always recommend 16AWG tinned copper for these high-power draws because it handles the heat way better than the thinner 18AWG stuff.
