just snagged a 5080 for my 4K editing rig but the stock cable is stiff as a board and looks awful in my North case. ive been building for 10 years but these new connectors still sketch me out. who's making reliable custom cables that actually bend well?
Ive been building rigs for a long time and these new connectors definitely require more precision than the old 8-pins. In my experience, the stock cables provided with most units are far too rigid for clean routing. I've moved almost all my recent builds over to the CableMod Pro ModMesh 12VHPWR Cable specifically because the flexibility makes it much easier to avoid putting stress on the header. If you are running a compatible unit, the Corsair Premium 600W PCIe 5.0 12VHPWR Cable is also excellent and significantly more pliable than the standard one. My main tip is to ensure the connector is fully seated with no visible gap before you close that side panel. Over the years, Ive found that nearly all connector issues stem from a lack of a proper click, so just stay methodical during the install. It really helps avoid any sketchiness with the power delivery.
I would suggest being careful with those pricier sets since they can still be pretty stiff. You might want to consider the Moddiy Triple 8-Pin to 12VHPWR 16-Pin Power Cable instead. Their silicone is much easier to route. Watch out for these:
I agree with the point about those stock cables being a struggle for clean management. I've been very satisfied with the Seasonic 12V-2x6 16-pin to 2x8-pin 600W for my latest build. The 16AWG wire gauge handles the power spikes quite well, and the high-current terminal pins work well to prevent resistance heat. No complaints regarding the connector stability tho.
Yep, this is the way
Been using this for years, no complaints
