Hey everyone! I’m looking to upgrade my rig to take advantage of Twitch's new AV1 support. I'm currently on an older GTX card and want smoother 1440p streams without performance dips. Should I go with an RTX 40-series for the encoders, or is the Radeon 7000 series better value for AV1 right now?

Sooo I've been streaming since the early H.264 days, and honestly, the jump to AV1 is basically the biggest quality leap I've seen in years. In my experience, I would suggest going with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super 12GB GDDR6X.

I've tried many cards over the years, and while I kinda like the value of the ASUS Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6, the NVIDIA NVENC encoder is just way more stable for Twitch's ecosystem right now.

1. **NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series**: Pros are the dual encoders and better software support like Broadcast. Cons? Definitely the price tag, lol.
2. **AMD Radeon RX 7000-series**: Pros are way better VRAM for the price. Cons are that the AV1 implementation feels a bit less polished in OBS compared to Team Green, at least from what I've seen.

Over the years, I've learned that having the extra driver stability is worth the premium cuz losing a stream mid-match is the worst feeling... plus the 40-series is literally built for 1440p. gl with the upgrade!

Curious about one thing: what's the actual budget you're working with for this? I switched to the ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB GDDR6 recently cuz it was a great deal, but honestly, I've had some issues with the drivers being a bit unstable during long streams... super disappointing tbh. I'm worried the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB GDDR6 might actually be safer for you if you're worried about performance dips, but idk if that fits your price range?

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, ur gonna love AV1. But wait, what's ur total budget for this and what's ur current PSU? Just wanna make sure u have enough overhead for those newer cards.

Sooo, for your situation, I would suggest sticking with the RTX 40-series. Honestly, I've tried both brands over the years and while the Radeon cards are awesome value for raw gaming, the *safety* and stability of the NVIDIA encoders is just hard to beat when you're live. I mean, you definitely dont want your stream crashing mid-raid cuz of a driver hiccup lol. I switched to one of the newer cards recently and the power efficiency is basically a lifesaver for my older PSU. It runs so cool and quiet, i dont even worry about overheating anymore! AMD is catching up for sure, but if you want that peace of mind that everything is just gonna *work* every time you hit go live, NVIDIA is still the king of reliability for AV1. gl with the upgrade!
