I’m finally planning a build around the new Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and since it’s looking like the absolute king of gaming CPUs, I don’t want to bottleneck it with the wrong graphics card. I’m mostly focused on hitting high refresh rates at 1440p, but I’m curious if I should just go all-out with a 4K-capable card to really match that X3D cache power. I've been looking at the RTX 4080 Super and the RX 7900 XTX, but I’m torn on which architecture actually scales better with this specific chip. Given the power of this CPU, which high-end GPU would you say offers the most balanced performance without leaving any frames on the table?

yo honestly if ur building with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, go for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Super for that sweet DLSS and ray tracing, or the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX for raw 1440p speed, both are AMAZING!!

Respectfully, I'd actually suggest a different approach if ur looking for the best bang for your buck. Everyone jumps to the top tier, but honestly, the ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB is the sleeper pick here. It's usually $150-200 cheaper than the XTX and still absolutely shreds 1440p high refresh. Why overspend on a 4080 Super for $1,000 when you can get 90% of the perf for way less?? it just makes more sense for a balanced build imo!!

So basically the consensus is that you've got two solid paths here, either going for the feature-heavy NVIDIA side or the raw value of AMD. Reply #1 was all about that high-end performance with the 4080 Super or XTX, while #2 made a great point about the 7900 XT being a total steal for the price. I actually just finished a similar build and honestly, it’s sooo easy to overspend when you’re hyped about a new chip like the 9800X3D.
But before you pull the trigger, I gotta ask—what's your actual monitor setup like? Are you strictly 1440p high refresh, or are you definitely planning to jump to 4K soon? Also, how much do you actually care about ray tracing? I mean, if you're mostly playing esports titles at 1440p, you might be overpaying for power you won't even see, even with that beastly CPU tho.
