My workspace is a total dust magnet lately! I’m worried about debris getting under my mechanical switches and streaks ruining my monitor. I’ve looked at those compressed air cans and microfiber sets, but which brands actually last? Does anyone have a go-to kit that includes a good brush and safe screen cleaner? I'd love some reliable recommendations!
Seconding electric dusters! I basically ruined a board with frozen liquid from canned air once... scary. Now I suggest the KCOY Electric Compressed Air Duster 3-Speed since it's MUCH safer for switches.
Seconding the recommendation above for electric dusters!! Seriously, I've been a tech enthusiast for 15 years and canned air is a waste of money.
I honestly swear by the DataVac Electric Duster ED500-P. It’s pricey but literally lasts a lifetime and is SAFE because it doesn't spit liquid on your PCB. For screens, definitely get the ScreenMom Screen Cleaner Kit with 16oz Bottle. It's ammonia-free, so it won't strip the coating off your monitor like some cheap stuff might do.
- DataVac Electric Duster ED500-P (best for keyboards)
- ScreenMom Screen Cleaner Kit with 16oz Bottle (streak-free and safe)
Trust me, investing in quality gear saves your hardware in the long run! gl!
For your situation, I would suggest going the budget-friendly route since high-end kits are kinda overpriced tbh. I've been cleaning setups for over 10 years and honestly, you don't need much!
* **Electric Dusters:** Way better value than canned air in the long run.
* **Distilled Water + Vinegar:** Cheaper than branded sprays and super safe for screens.
* **Large Microfiber Packs:** Just buy a bulk pack so you always have a clean one.
Basically, be careful with those "all-in-one" kits... they usually include a cheap brush that sheds everywhere. Better to buy a separate soft makeup brush for your mechanical keys!
basically i've tried both and it honestly depends on your budget. for the monitor, Whoosh! Screen Shine 1oz kit is literally the best cuz it leaves zero streaks, right? for the keyboard though, i feel u... air is okay but i prefer the Hagibis Keyboard Cleaning Kit cuz it's got that tiny brush and a keycap puller for the deep dust. so realyyy helpful lol!!
honestly after years of doing this I found that specialized tools win every time over generic kits. for the keyboard gunk i swear by the OXO Good Grips Electronics Cleaning Brush cuz that silicone wiper part is perfect for getting into the edges of mechanical switches where dust likes to hide. if you dont want to deal with motors or air cans at all check out the Giottos Rocket Air Blaster Large... its meant for camera sensors so the air is super clean and powerful enough for daily dusting. for the screen i usually skip the soapy stuff and use ZEISS Lens Cleaning Kit 8oz with some MagicFiber Microfiber Cleaning Cloths 6 Pack. those cloths have a much tighter weave than the cheap bulk ones so they dont leave lint behind which is usually what causes streaks anyway. hope that helps you out!
honestly the struggle is so real and i am just about over it... every time i find a kit i think i like, there is some weird compatibility issue. like i tried the ColorCoral Cleaning Gel Universal Dust Cleaner for my keyboard because everyone said it was a life saver. pros: it definitely grabs the hair and dust between the switches. cons: it left this gross sticky film on my specific keycap plastic that i had to scrub off with a damp cloth anyway. and dont even get me started on screens. i bought the MagicFiber Microfiber Cleaning Cloths 6 Pack thinking they would be the ultimate fix but they are almost too soft for those stubborn oily smudges on my matte display. i feel like i am gonna crack the screen before the smudge actually moves. it is just so frustrating trying to find tools that dont feel like they are gonna mess up the hardware we spent so much money on... anyway just venting while i try to wipe down my desk again lol.

dont use cheap canned air cuz it can spray liquid and ruin everything!! For your situation, I suggest Whoosh and a soft brush. honestly been using them for years and it's amazing!!
Exactly what I was thinking
