What is the absolute best laptop for productivity I can get for $700 or less right now? I'm starting a new remote gig next month and I'm super hyped to get my home office setup going properly finally! I spent all morning looking at the Acer Swift 3 and the Asus Vivobook S14 but the reviews are all over the place.

Some people say the Acer has a terrible dim screen but then others say it is the best value for the money so I'm just kinda stuck. I really need something that can handle like 50 chrome tabs and zoom without lagging out because my current old dell is basically a brick at this point. Do I really need 16gb of ram or can I get away with 8 if the processor is fast enough...

^ This. Also, my last <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ASUS+ Vivobook+S14+Ryzen+7+16GB&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">ASUS Vivobook S14 Ryzen 7 16GB kept crashing during meetings. Such a letdown honestly.

Honestly, since you're starting a new job, you really want something that wont die on you during an important call. I have been super satisfied with the ThinkPad line for years because they basically just work without any drama. I would look at the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 5 Ryzen 5 7530U 16GB RAM 512GB SSD. It usually fits right in your budget and the build quality feels way safer than those thin consumer laptops. Heres why it works well for remote work:

  • The keyboard is spill-resistant which is a lifesaver for home offices
  • It handles heat way better so it wont throttle during Zoom calls
  • You get a physical webcam shutter for extra privacy About the RAM... definitely dont settle for 8gb. Chrome is a total memory hog and having 16gb is like a safety net for your workflow. It keeps everything snappy even with 50 tabs open. Youll be much happier with a stable business machine like this.

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.

In my experience, if youre hitting 50 tabs and Zoom at once, 8gb of ram is gonna be a total nightmare. Ive tried many budget setups and you really need 16gb for that kind of workflow regardless of the processor speed. Honestly, skip the older Swift 3 because the screen really is too dim for a bright room. Heres what I would look at instead:

  • Acer Swift Go 14 OLED Intel Core i7 16GB RAM
  • They basically fixed the screen issue with this OLED version and its super crisp. Great for long work days.
  • <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k=ASUS+ Vivobook+16+M1605+AMD+Ryzen+7+16GB+RAM&linkCode=osi&------123456890?7649-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">ASUS Vivobook 16 M1605 AMD Ryzen 7 16GB RAM
  • This one is a total workhorse. It has a bigger screen than the S14 which helps a lot with spreadsheets and multitasking. Over the years Ive found that prioritizing the ram over a slightly faster chip saves you way more frustration with lag... go for the 16gb options and you wont regret it.
