I’m finally looking to upgrade from my old desktop, but I’m on a strict budget of $900. I really want something that can handle modern titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Starfield on decent settings without overheating immediately. I’ve been looking at the RTX 4050 and 4060 laptops, but I'm worried about build quality and screen color accuracy at this price point. Is it better to grab a newer budget model with a weaker GPU, or should I hunt for a clearance deal on a last-gen higher-end machine? I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options on Amazon and Best Buy right now. Does anyone have a specific model they swear by for performance and cooling under $900?

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before jumping on those newer 40-series cards. Honestly, for Starfield, the VRAM and build quality on budget 4050s can be pretty sketchy...

I'd actually suggest hunting for a ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022) 14" 120Hz, AMD Radeon RX 6700S, Ryzen 9 6900HS, 16GB DDR5, 1TB SSD on clearance or open-box.

1. **Budget vs Quality**: You get a premium chassis and way better color accuracy than a budget TUF or LOQ.
2. **VRAM**: The 6700S has 8GB VRAM, which handles Cyberpunk much better than a 6GB 4050.

Just my two cents tho! GL!

sooo i totally feel u on this. last year i was in the exact same spot trying to find a balance between power and not having my lap literally melt off lol. i ended up grabbing the Lenovo Legion 5 15.6" WQHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS RTX 4060 16GB RAM 512GB SSD on a deep sale and honestly... it was a lifesaver.

In my experience, you highkey want to prioritize the cooling and build quality over just raw specs if you're gonna play heavy stuff like Cyberpunk. i checked out some cheaper options first but the hinges felt like they'd snap if i looked at them wrong!! i eventually settled on the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023) 15.6” FHD 144Hz Display NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 16GB DDR5 512GB PCIe Gen4 SSD because it's built like a tank, tho the screen color accuracy is just okay. basically, if ur doing pro photo work maybe look elsewhere, but for gaming? its fine.

Here's what I recommend: seriously watch the r/laptopdeals sub or Best Buy clearance like a hawk. I managed to snag a HP Victus 16.1" Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-13700H NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 16GB Memory 512GB SSD for right around $850 last month for a friend. The RTX 4060 is a MASSIVE jump over the 4050 because of the extra VRAM, which you'll definitely need for Starfield. Just be careful with the cheaper MSI GF63 Thin 15.6" Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5-12450H NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 8GB Memory 512GB SSD... they run super hot in my experience. anyway, gl with the hunt!! peace

Honestly, for under $900, you gotta check out the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023) 15.6” FHD 144Hz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS, 16GB DDR5, 512GB PCIe SSD. It's basically the best value right now because you get that RTX 4060, which is WAY better for Starfield than the 4050. The cooling is actually decent for a budget build, tho the screen colors are just okay. If you want better build quality, keep an eye out for an open-box HP Victus 16.1" Gaming Laptop - Intel Core i7-13700H - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD at Best Buy... sometimes they drop right into your price range and it runs pretty cool lol. Definitely go for the 4060 over a last-gen 3060 if you can!
