Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a high-performance gaming laptop that stays under $1500 and actually has decent cooling? Ive been a PC gamer for over a decade and usually build my own desktops so I know my specs, but I just moved into a much smaller place in Chicago and dont have room for a full tower setup anymore. I tried a budget-friendly option last week but the thermal throttling was absolutely insane. It was downclocking the CPU within ten minutes of booting up Cyberpunk and Im honestly so frustrated with how misleading these spec sheets are.

I need something with at least an RTX 4070 that isnt power-limited to some tiny wattage because whats even the point then? My budget is firm at fifteen hundred bucks and Im hoping to buy something before my vacation in two weeks. I was looking at the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro because people say the build quality is better than the cheap plastic stuff but Im seeing mixed reviews about the screen bleed lately. Should I stick with that or is there a better sleeper pick Im missing? I just want something that wont feel like a toy and can actually handle a heavy load without sounding like a jet engine 24/7...

TL;DR: Legion Pro 5i for build quality, ROG Strix G16 for thermal performance. The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 9 RTX 4070 Intel Core i7-14700HX is a tank, but yeah, screen bleed happens sometimes. If that worries you, the ASUS ROG Strix G16 RTX 4070 Intel Core i7-13650HX has a killer cooling setup that keeps the 4070 at high wattages. Both are solid options that wont throttle like those budget bricks.

Like someone mentioned, the Legion and the Predator are usually the top picks, but it's a bit of a toss-up between screen bleed and loud fans. To sum up what everyone's saying, you're basically stuck choosing between build quality or raw power, which is a bummer when you're used to building desktops where you can have both. Since you need something before your vacation, you might check out the HP Omen 16 RTX 4070 Intel Core i7-13700HX. It’s got a stealthier look that doesn't feel like a toy, which is nice if you're working with limited space in Chicago. Unfortunately, I’ve found the software on these isn’t as good as expected—the Omen Hub can be a real pain to navigate compared to something like MSI Afterburner. The cooling is actually pretty decent though, and it usually hits that higher wattage you’re looking for without immediately throttling. The main reason I suggest this as a sleeper pick is the price; you can usually snag it for well under $1500, which gives you some breathing room for games. Just a heads up, there were some issues with a hall-effect sensor near the rear vents causing screen blackouts on older batches, which is honestly so frustrating to deal with. Another option if you want to stay strictly under budget is the Gigabyte AORUS 15 RTX 4070 Intel Core i7-13700H. It is surprisingly well-built for the price, tho the battery life is pretty mediocre. It’s definitely a solid middle ground if you want to avoid the jet engine vibe of the Acer, even if it's not quite a custom desktop replacement. Good luck with the move, Chicago is a great city!

I would suggest the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 RTX 4070 Intel Core i7-13700HX because it hits that full 140W TGP. Be careful with the loud fans tho.
