Whats the absolute best gaming laptop I can grab for under a grand right now? Im currently torn between the Acer Nitro 5 and the Lenovo LOQ and cant decide if the price jump is worth it. The Nitro is about 800 bucks at my local Best Buy but people say the fans sound like a jet engine and the screen is super dim. The LOQ is sitting right at $950 which is pushing my budget but it seems way more solid for long term use.

I need to pick something up before I move back to my dorm in Chicago next weekend so I dont have forever to browse. I mostly play stuff like Valorant and Apex but I really want to try out some heavier games like Cyberpunk without it melting. Is the Lenovo actually better or am I just paying for the looks...

> The LOQ is sitting right at $950 Regarding what #2 said, unfortunately, reliability at this price is often disappointing. Are you prioritizing battery? The HP Victus 15 R5-7535HS RTX 4050 is cheaper, but the Gigabyte G5 KF RTX 4060 runs hot.

jumping in here since I just went through this hunt myself... honestly, the LOQ is solid but you should check out the Dell G15 5530 RTX 4050 16GB DDR5 before you head to Chicago. It is built like a tank, which is great for reliability, even if it weighs a ton in a backpack. The cooling on those is way beefier than the Nitro, and you dont want your laptop melting while playing Cyberpunk in a stuffy dorm room. Another decent option is the MSI Katana 15 B12VFK RTX 4060 8GB. It can get a bit loud, but the performance is great for the price. Just watch the hinges on those budget MSIs tho, they can be a bit sketchy long term. If you want something that lasts a few years, the Dell is probably the safer bet for build quality. Whatever you pick, make sure it has 16GB of RAM... 8GB just wont cut it for Apex anymore.

TL;DR: The LOQ is objectively better for thermals and build, making it the safer bet for demanding titles like Cyberpunk. @Reply #1 - good point! The build quality on those budget Acers is usually where they cut corners to hit that price. Honestly, you might want to consider the TGP (Total Graphics Power) before pulling the trigger. The Lenovo LOQ 15IRH8 RTX 4060 8GB usually has a higher power limit than the Nitro, which helps a lot with those heavier games. Be careful with the displays on these. Most cheap gaming laptops use 45% NTSC panels that look pretty washed out. I would suggest checking out the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6 R7-7735HS RTX 4060 if you can find a deal near you. It has a more efficient cooling system and better battery life for your dorm. Just make sure to check if the RAM is dual-channel, otherwise your Valorant FPS will definitely suffer.

> The Nitro is about 800 bucks at my local Best Buy but people say the fans sound like a jet engine I actually bought that Acer Nitro 5 15.6 FHD 144Hz RTX 4050 and it was a letdown. The screen looked washed out and the plastic felt cheap. I swapped it for the Lenovo LOQ 15.6 FHD 144Hz RTX 4060 and the build is way better. It actually plays Cyberpunk without sounding like its gonna melt. Spend the extra money.
