What is the best gaming laptop for under $1000 right now?

I’m currently in the market for a new rig, but my budget is strictly capped at $1,000. I’ve been browsing a few options, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the trade-offs between CPU power and GPU performance at this price point. I’m mainly looking for something that can handle titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Starfield at decent settings without overheating instantly. Portability isn't a huge deal, but I’d love a screen with at least a 144Hz refresh rate for smoother gameplay. Are there any specific models currently on sale or known for having the best cooling in this bracket? Which laptop offers the most 'bang for your buck' right now?

sooo i've been looking into this too since i'm kinda new to the tech specs scene but i think for under $1000 you gotta check these out:

1. Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16" Gaming Laptop WQXGA Ryzen 7 7840HS RTX 4060 16GB RAM 512GB SSD - honestly this is the best for cooling imo. i think it usually goes on sale for around $899 or $999 and the build quality is seriously solid.
2. ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023) 15.6” 144Hz FHD Ryzen 7 7735HS RTX 4060 16GB DDR5 512GB SSD - i guess this one is a bit louder but it's basically the budget king right now if u find it on sale at Best Buy.

tbh the 4060 is literally worth the extra cash over a 4050 for Starfield... just make sure to watch the temps... hope this helps!! gl!

Ok so I'm pretty new to this, but I've been doing a lot of reading because I'm also on a budget. For under $1000, you gotta be careful with the build quality so it doesn't melt lol.

I would suggest looking at these two instead of the ones already mentioned:

* Acer Nitro V 15 Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-13620H NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 16GB DDR5 512GB Gen 4 SSD - This is usually way under budget, so it's a safe bet for the wallet.
* ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (2023) Gaming Laptop 15.6” FHD 144Hz Display GeForce RTX 4060 AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS 16GB DDR5 1TB PCIe SSD - The TUF series is known for being super rugged which I like.

Honestly, the RTX 4060 is probably the sweet spot for Starfield. Just make sure you use a cooling pad tho!! good luck

Quick question - r u planning to use an external monitor or just the laptop screen? Honestly, for Cyberpunk, you're gonna need that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 to hit decent frames, right?

> Which laptop offers the most 'bang for your buck' right now? @Reply #4 - good point! Build quality definitely makes or breaks these mid-range rigs. I actually picked up an HP Victus 16 Gaming Laptop 16.1 inch FHD 144Hz Intel Core i7-13700H RTX 4060 16GB RAM for my brother last month when it hit a sale under $900. I spent a few hours stress testing it with Starfield. It stayed pretty stable, tho the screen wobble is real if you're a heavy typer. Compared to something like the Gigabyte G5 KF 15.6 FHD 144Hz Core i5-12500H RTX 4060 8GB RAM 512GB SSD, the HP feels way more premium. The Gigabyte is usually the cheapest way to get a 4060, but man, those fans are loud. Like, hear-it-through-your-headphones loud. If you dont mind a bit of bulk, the Victus has much better thermal management. Just gotta watch for those Best Buy sales because the price fluctuates like crazy. Ngl i'd take a slightly slower CPU for better cooling any day of the week... nothing kills performance like thermal throttling halfway through a session.

ngl i am literally in the exact same boat right now... been looking for weeks. trying to find something with a high enough tgp that wont just melt while playing starfield is such a chore. honestly i think you should just go with any gaming rig from dell. you cant really go wrong with their build quality lately and they seem to hold up way better over time than some of the cheaper brands. or just get an hp and be done with it. theyve both really stepped up their cooling game in the last year or two so they're pretty reliable. i've been looking at a lot of thermal data lately and those two seem to have the most consistent longevity for the price. just stick with one of those big names and you'll be fine imo.
