So Ive been a desktop guy forever and know my way around a BIOS but honestly looking for a laptop under $1200 for my trip to Chicago next month is making my head spin. I was thinking the Legion 5 was the clear winner for the build quality but then I saw some Acer Nitro and ASUS TUF models with 4070s in them for like $1150 which seems too good to be true? My logic was grab the best GPU but now Im seeing all these different TGP ratings and Im worried about getting a gimped card that performs worse than a full-power 4060. Plus the screen color accuracy on the cheaper ones is kinda scaring me away... whats the actual performance king right now before I pull the trigger?
> Im seeing all these different TGP ratings and Im worried about getting a gimped card that performs worse than a full-power 4060. Dude, I totally get the anxiety! I spent literally three weeks digging through benchmarks and wattage charts before I finally pulled the trigger on my last setup. The TGP stuff is a massive trap for the unwary! While those cheap 4070s look fantastic on a spec sheet, they often run at lower power or have terrible cooling that causes thermal throttling anyway. It is so frustrating to see performance drop after only ten minutes of gaming. I actually benchmarked the Lenovo Legion 5 15.6 WQHD 165Hz Ryzen 7 7735HS RTX 4060 against a budget Nitro last year and the Legion was just amazing. It handled a full 140W TGP without breaking a sweat! If you want the absolute performance king for under 1200, look for the ASUS TUF Gaming F15 15.6 144Hz i7-13620H RTX 4070 when its on sale. Just watch out for the screen because color accuracy on the TUF can be a bit hit or miss compared to the Legion. Love the hunt for the perfect specs tho!
