My old desktop finally kicked the bucket and i need something portable for my dorm room by next week. I've got like $800 max to spend and ive been looking at the HP Victus 15 and that Acer Nitro V 15 model.
People on reddit keep saying the Victus has a terrible screen with ghosting issues but then the Nitro 5 reviews say it sounds like a jet engine and overheats like crazy. I just want to play some Baldurs Gate 3 and maybe some Valorant without the thing melting in my lap. Is there something better for the price right now or am I just gonna have to compromise on either the screen or the fans...
> HP Victus 15 and that Acer Nitro V 15 model Be careful, my Nitro scorched my desk. I would suggest the Lenovo LOQ 15 15.6 inch 144Hz RTX 4050 since it's budget-friendly and stays much cooler for BG3.
@Reply #1 - good point! Tbh you really gotta watch those thermals on budget Acers. I would suggest looking at the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6 inch 144Hz Ryzen 5 RTX 4050. It usually dips under $800 during sales and the cooling system is way more reliable for long BG3 sessions compared to the Victus. Quick tip tho, be careful with the RAM. Most of these entry-level rigs ship with only 8GB, which is gonna cause major stutters in BG3. I would definitely suggest adding a Crucial 8GB DDR5 4800MHz SODIMM to your cart immediately. Also, make sure to verify the TGP wattage for the GPU. Some brands gimp the power to keep heat down, so a high-wattage 4050 is always gonna outperform a throttled one. Honestly, just check those specs twice before buying...
